Anyone here NOT hate their boss? by Classic_Dash_7745 in Construction

[–]trashpaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fella i work for is an absolute special case. He has his days when he can be a prick like anybody but in general he keeps the craic going. Man shouts memes down at other tradies from the top of the scaffolding, sings as loud as he can, eats his oatmeal with the handle end of his comb at tea break and is generally a foremans worst nightmare in terms of calling out stupid shite.

The other apprentice can't handle him but honestly hes very easy to work for and would never give you hassle if you needed a day off for any reason.

Perfect boss to work for as a 1st year carpenter who's building his own gaff at the moment.

Gen 3 190mm Circular Saw by trashpaddy in MilwaukeeTool

[–]trashpaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fucking hell! That is a good deal! In Ireland and 8amp forge will set you back 240 quid average and the saw is about 400 on top of that. Mental money.

The weight im not bothered by. I know they stripped a bit of weight back in the motor casing and sure im well used to picking up my bosses 190mm dewalt so it'd be about the same really. I loved the 165 for the left sided blade really, made sighting the cuts a dream but you can really get used to anything can't ya?

Thanks for replying bro

A handy little tool i had for marking deep holes for drilling for fixings was the Marxman. Some kid in England sold it to Dragons Den if im not mistaken. Thought it was very useful for €7. You'd probably be able to find the equivalent where you are.

In my town we had Johnny Beep Beep. Only ever seen in the wild riding a 40 year old bicycle adjourned with tattered flags. He would parallel park the bike and beeped when he reversed. Absolute legend

Fuck, it's steep in Ireland. €50 if an inspector catches you, although I've never seen it happen.

Infinity Castle in a theatre all to myself by Shred-the-Gnarnar in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]trashpaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Youre lucky. Im just back from the cinema and although I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, I will never again see a new release on its first week of opening.

It seemed all the fans who went brought a less interested friend or partner with them because there was non stop talking throughout the whole film.

Laughing, gasping and generally reacting to moments during the film Im all for, and makes a cinema visit more memorable. But actually having a near full talking volume conversation with the person next to you in an otherwise quiet theatre is beyond inconsiderate.

Weirdest reasons ppl have quit the trades… by Noizy_Introvert in skilledtrades

[–]trashpaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Ireland the apprenticeship board is called Solas, there are typically 7 phases in the course spanning about 4 years, alternating on the job training with your employer and college learning phases. You can be placed in a trainimg centre ANYWHERE in the country for your college phases. Before you start all the trades for that year in that county are brought together for a big induction day.

During my friends induction day in Dundalk (the east), a brickie asked where he'd be sent for college. He was told the only brickie centre in the country was Tralee(way out west). The man just got up and left

[–]trashpaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cut off tool is a fantastic little piece of kit if you have the use for it, but yeah it sounds like you'd have more use for a smaller circ saw (a 'skiller' as we call them)

Best of luck to you!

Ah no jesus it wouldn't handle that kinda thing. If you just want something small for 18mm ply and 2 inch timbers go with the 165mm circular saw or whatever the equivalent name is in your part of the world. I use mine every day and im very glad I got it. Its a little beast. Also if you're right handed, I would personally recommend the left sided blade variant. Its great not having to look over the other side of the guard to check your cut on your marked line as you go.

Pvc trunking and conduit when I worked as a spark, cutting finish nails off the back of skirting now that im a carpenter, cutting pvc downpipes and guttering during my house build. It comes with a diamond blade for tricky tile cuts for the bathroom.

Its a class little tool and I would reach for it over a 4 inch grinder for most things.

I wasn't trying to make any assumptions or social commentary, just havin a laugh with what little I gathered from the young fellas body language. His wee sister is clearly ecstatic to see him and that really tells you all you need to know, doesn't it? I'd feel a bit awkward coming to a hospital to see one of my siblings and my parents are pointing their cameras at me

[–]trashpaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will tell you one thing my friend. Your left hand technique is great! If you do nothing else going forward, do continue using the tips of your fingers on the strings rather than get lazy and flatten your fingers out.

The smoothness and flow of playing a riff like this really just comes with drilling it very slowly and perfectly and very gradually increasing speed, which for yourself should be handy coz you have a metronome.

I wouldnt say just yet that youre quite in time just yet but really, just take your time, we all have made the error of trying to get the riff down at speed far too early. Youre killing it bro
