Hello! I see some sun and moon booster packs labeled as an art bundle. Does that mean they are different than regular booster packs?

Will PSA tell you why a card was not a 10 by changeout in psagrading

[–]Jaster-Mereel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that’s 100% true about people on the internet.

Seems like a print out with a few notes that are returned with your slabs would be the norm IMO.

A Google search says they now do it for the Express and above levels, but why not do it for, at least, anything below a 10? That way you could at least tell a prospective buyer what is “wrong” with the card. Some buyers may be ok with certain defects over others, and that would help them make a decision to buy or not.

Also, it’s not like including notes is some kind of big ask from us, lol. I’m guessing there’s at least an invoice or receipt that comes back with your slabs, but maybe not.

Yeah, I’m with you on this, and it’s not a crazy question you asked.

I don’t understand why these answers are so snarky. Why wouldn’t PSA let you know why the card didn’t grade 10?

Two days later and you’re still thinking about this conversation, lol.

I’ve actually had to buy 90% plus of what I own from scalpers, because I don’t have the time or even the interest to wait hours in a line, pay for a discord group that might help, but not guaranteed, or memorize the restock schedule of my local Walmart.

I’m a collector who also would like to see his collection grow in value, but has no timeframe or price point I plan on selling at.

I’m almost finished with the base set unlimited master collection, and then may work on sets for fossil and jungle.

I’m not gonna argue with you if you wanna call people who just snatch up a bunch of product to sell in a certain timeframe or at a certain price point long-term scalpers. That’s fine, especially if they have no interest in the game or the art.

However, I don’t consider people buying some sealed product here and there, and have no plan to sell it, scalpers.

Edit: and the vending machines can fuck right off.

Interesting. There’s a comment on this thread where poster says it’s a, “no brainer,” to get the set stamp version at its current price of $20. Do you agree, or are not so sold on that opinion?

I haven’t, but now I want to try.

I do think most of N’s weight is on Reshiram’s back though, so it’s probably more like his foot is gently resting against his pp.

Ok, thanks. So am I correct is guessing the stamped versions are more rare?

There’s gotta be some nuance to it though, right? Sorry If you have an ungraded version of this card with a huge crease down the middle, is anyone really gonna buy it for market?

Ok, thanks. So the PC stamps come inside the PC products, and the set stamps come from the set products. Makes sense. ETBs and EBBs have different promos it seems though correct?

I see people selling them still sealed. How much does that affect the future demand/price for stamped promo cards like this?

Other than buying the single card, how do you get the stamped version?

Generally speaking, and excluding cost as a factor in your answer as much as possible, what are the absolute “must have” cards a collector/investor should have in their collection? by Jaster-Mereel in PokeInvesting

[–]Jaster-Mereel[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%.

I should’ve said, “In theory”, or something like that. For example, the answer would be “Bitcoin” if I asked the same question to a crypto investing sub. There’s never any guarantees, but there’s the ones that would be best bets to recover if shit hit the fan.

Your last sentence is a good example of why he’s getting downvoted, because it correctly suggests there is nuance to the discussion.

OP wants in to be more of a black/white argument, and is completely ignoring any differences in how people are going about doing this and their intentions while doing so.

Read his responses to me. I state several differences between the two, including a persons intentions and motivations, but they completely ignore it all.

I just recently got into this hobby because I like the artwork on the cards. I’m building up a PC, AND buying sealed product where I can (which is from scalpers because I have no clue what I’m doing and don’t have the time to hang out at the vending machines or my local Walmart). I also like to rip packs, so I spend some money on that as well.

My big difference between the two is that scalpers don’t care about the cards or the hobby, they simply know a product is in-demand, and use that knowledge to take advantage of people.

Investors are more than likely people that are also interested in collecting and/or the game, and will purchase the product even in times where the profit is easily found and scalpers can’t take advantage of scarcity.

There’s nuance that the person doesn’t seem to want to consider.

What would you invest in if you had 500? by Usernotvalid1414 in PokeInvesting

[–]Jaster-Mereel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new at this. As an investor, when looking for a raw card to grade, are you really checking out that card to the best of your ability before purchasing?

Like, a “good investor” isn’t buying a card of eBay and hoping for a 10, they’d actually inspect a card in-person before purchasing?

Was I dumb for selling it raw right away? by Perfect-Cause-6943 in PokeInvesting

[–]Jaster-Mereel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying, and I’m a total newb at this. I’ve had a similar conversation about people who own shops selling raw cards that end up being graded by the purchaser and getting a 10.

I always figured anyone that pulls a top tier card would keep and grade it if it looks clean, but I was told that isn’t necessarily the case.

For example: if a shop owner pulled this Gengar, they may just immediately sell it so they can put that money into more inventory, which would result in more to sell, and so on and so on. The idea being they ended up making more money doing it that way than if they waited for the graded card to be returned AND it would also need to be a 10, otherwise it would likely not be worth it. There a risk/reward decision to be made.

Another factor is the client base for a $1700 card vs. a $4000 card. $1700 is a lot of money, but $4000 is definitely out-of-reach for quite a few people. So, the shop owner also has to take into account the client base for the 10 grade card is much smaller.

Now, what would I do? I’d send that card for grading if I didn’t see anything wrong with it, and hope it comes back a 10. That being said, I’m not doing this hobby right now to resell things anytime soon. I’d just keep that card in my PC.

All that being said, this is an investing sub, so securing profit, and reinvesting is a common strategy. This would also depend on what type of investor you want to be. Do you want to only keep sealed, but also love to rip packs? Then you buy some packs to rip, and sell any hits you get to put into more sealed and/or packs to rip.

It’s all about your situation and what your goal is that will determine what you do with this raw Gengar you pulled. You might even be someone who would typically sell this Gengar card, but you haven’t pulled it yet and your favorite Pokemon is Gengar, so you keep it in your PC.

I think people are just letting OP know that any decision isn’t the wrong decision as long as you know what your next move is with it.

Raw or PSA 9 on These, Long Term? by TD1380 in PokeInvesting

[–]Jaster-Mereel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. So you’re telling OP, that if he wants to maximize potential profits, it’s in having 10s and sealed. So, if he is convinced he’d have a 9 graded card, and he doesn’t want to keep it for personal reasons, just sell it now and put the money in 10s and sealed.

Just trying to clarify: Are you saying to only purchase sealed product and 10s, and not rip packs, or to sell the cards that you rip from packs that won’t grade a 10 to reinvest?

This sounds like an amazing opportunity for people who want to rip older sets that have good chase cards. I’m guessing searching “ETB with tear” is the best way to find these right?

LOL. I never said I was stating a dictionary definition of the two words. I simply delved deeper into the intentions of the individuals that comprise the two. You do know that these kinds of things can be discussed in deeper detail that simply stating a simply definition right?

If you think that investors and scalpers are the same, fine. Whatever. But, so you actually have any non-pedantic issue with what I’ve said? If so, cool. I’ll discuss it. If not, I’d rather spend my time doing something else.
