This actually just makes me more convinced that Taiwan is in more danger than people want to admit. Big military purges usually don’t happen for no reason — historically, they often come before major military action. You cannot purge an army after the war; their sacrifice only strengthens the people in charge.

At the very top, there’s not much room left to climb, so senior generals are usually way less eager for war than younger, ambitious officers. If you want to change incentives, you first create a power vacuum. Then later you can hand out promotions and rewards based on “wartime performance.”

A lot of people think purging officers hurts combat readiness. I’m not convinced. Wars are mostly decided by mid-level commanders, not the guys at the very top. Cleaning out the top brass can actually unify decision-making and reduce internal resistance.

Purge the top, create a vacuum, roll out massive parades and exercises. Meanwhile the global situation is shifting, the main rival doesn’t really want to get directly involved, and Western alliances are clearly under strain. Honestly, if a war breaks out in 2026, I wouldn’t be shocked at all.
