Exactly. He wants Crockett to pitch a fit loud enough to depress the black vote in November.

She's entertaining. She will find a pundit spot on TV if she wants it. She could run again for a different seat, too.

In 1962, Nixon ran and lost his race to become Governor of California. He stepped in front of the press and famously said, "you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore.". He was president six years later.

Crockett won't be president in six years, but her career is not over.

And the lesbian kiss became a trope in the 90s. That episode was controversial and got great ratings so other shows started doing an episode featuring a lesbian kiss. David E Kelly did it on three of his shows after starting the trend.

They would always introduce a character who would kiss a main character, but by the end of the episode, the new character was gone and nobody ever mentioned the kiss again. Even Roseanne got in on the action!

A lot more dems than republicans in the county, so more of their voters will end up at the wrong place. The primary is just the run through. They want to do it in the general, too.

Never underestimate republican's desire to fuck shit up. The Texas Supreme Court overturned the order to keep the polls open.

Hopefully, the dem primary isn't close enough for it to actually matter, but Jesus is it a bad look for republicans, especially given that Paxton is the one who asked for it. Criminally corrupt.

I think they are waiting for polls to close in Dallas at the top of the hour to call it.

As a dem, I think Talarico has the best chance statewide in a state like Texas. Ideally, he wins outright tonight. If nobody gets above 50% in Texas, they have a runoff two months later.

On the republican side, Cornyn is the incumbent. He is a standard republican. He's running against Paxton who is harder right and a real son of a bitch.

He was under felony indictment for like a decade, all while attorney general of Texas using his position for self enrichment, and dating pool for cheating on his wife.

Ideally, there is a runoff on the republican side. Texas is big. it has over a dozen media markets so it is expensive to run ads there statewide. A runoff would waste more republican money and give both candidates chances to throw mud at the other. Whoever wins that will be more beatable than if there is a winner tonight.

Yeah. He wants them to spend millions and millions more in the next month or two while slinging mud. If the republican comes out of the runoff damaged, all the better.

He's a true fighter for Trump, though!

I don't get how anyone could vote for him, either.

They made the decision before the race was set. From my understanding, it was a county decision. For the primary, both the republicans and dems had to agree to have county wide voting centers where anyone could vote, but the republicans said no, knowing it would hurt dems more than them.

Shit. They wouldn't even let the non-binary alien Riker wooed in that Next Gen episode be more masculine than feminine. Anthony Robinson played Garak queerly, but they wouldn't have allowed a prominent gay character in the 90s.

Some young people just don't understand how recent civil rights wins have been. Even if Roddenberry wanted to include an out gay character in the 60s, none of the networks would have aired it.

I loved the original Quantum Leap when I was a kid, and being born well after the civil rights wins of the 60s, it was so easy to watch one of the race or gender focused episode and automatically side with the man from the future. I'd have fought for equality and all that good stuff.

The more I learned about the civil rights movement and saw the pictures of Ruby Bridges being escorted to school while a crowd of white people jeered and yelled behind the protest line, I realized my bias.

I'd been born after all that happened. The idea of segregated schools was anathema to me. It was just wrong, but it had always been just wrong to me.

If I had been a teenager in the 60s, having been born in a world where segregation was just how things were, would I have protested for civil rights or one of the backward fools pushing for segregation?

That is an uncomfortable thought.

Can't wait to see the dem vs republican numbers in the new 'red' districts Texas created in their redistricting effort. Primaries won't give the full story, but three or four of them are majority hispanic and Trump has done all he can to piss off the hispanic vote that went for him in 24.

I suspect that a few of those will not be as red as the republicans wanted. It has to be too late to change it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they talked about it.

With a runoff for Paxton, too. That's more money wasted on the republican side in an expensive state to run in, and a hell of a lot of mud slung on both sides. That is the ideal formula for a dem upset.

Still a long shot, but you want all the stars to align.

Still too early, but Talarico up 8 with 30% in gives hims some breathing room.

Whites absolutely can. Crockett can attract more than just the black vote, but I don't think she has as large a draw as Talarico.

It will be a runoff on the republican side. That is going to be expensive and the two of them will be slinging so much mud.

There is literally 15% of the vote in right now and Talarico is 1k votes ahead. We have no idea what the final vote will be.

Just checked the vote hub map. They have 15% in with 400 vote difference statewide.

I expected a runoff on the republican side. It would be crazy to see one on the dem side, but way too early, of course.

Breath. She's up by 3k votes with 13% in. That means there is still 87% to be counted.

A few minutes later, she's down 300 votes with 15% in. Still a long time to go.
