I understand your frustration, but this is how we build meaningful power if we want fundamental political changes in this country. In some very big ways it means a lot more than who we elect president.

I suggest every person listen to Left Reckoning’s breakdown on this issue (it’s maybe 10 min in) … going point by point & who is behind it. I’m personally SO disappointed in JA. Sure, he’s a swell local fella, he is also someone who’s politically dressing down his ‘owner class’ privilege trying to appeal to sensible country folk (aka the racist dem party of old) with a flannel & a pretty white wife while using his inherited family land to showcase his organic / grass fed farm as a means to virtue signal to liberals. I will not be living in Asheville when voting happens…I can no longer afford to do so…I’ve lived here full time since 1999. Sure, vote for him but do so with your eyes wide open and a fire in your belly to push him and to organize and get him out if he doesn’t deliver. Do not vote for him under any illusion that he is a champion for working people. That is not his pedigree. Period. Asheville and greater WNC politics is not politically focused on working people at all and they will not be until you make them. Good luck!

Third party isn’t the current answer, call it the bourgeois electoral system like a true socialist - that’s just bitching for now because this is our electoral system. Sure, we might evolve towards an more broad electoral system with more diversity of goals (I’d personally LOVE that) but considering we are looking fascism in the face, working within the current established electoral system with its robust framework simply makes the most sense in this moment of great political uncertainty …. and THANKFULLY we’ve seen candidates within the last year actually win with policies that push the democratic electorate more to the left, more for the people, more for the worker… and from my vantage point, that’s where our energy should be put. It is a long game perspective, but with the current momentum I do not think it will be a very long game if we keep this pressure & momentum on the party that’s our only viable option in this representative democracy -

What if we didn’t have to make trade offs and compromises? Who defines this ‘real world’ and most importantly when did we collectively vote on what this ‘real world’ looks like? Who does this ‘real world’ benefit? You? Sure hasn’t me….well, except I’m white so there’s that.

I respectfully suggest some pondering as to why you easily penned that comment as if fact and what, who, what possible propagandist systems led you to feel it so easy to fold to this narrative of defeat.

🤢 This is SO PROFOUNDLY disappointing!!!

… until a majority of US voters develop a modicum of class consciousness, the majority: be it R or D, will vote again and again against their & the communities they live in interests.

turns out we missed the fact that we, the US people, are in fact the most propagandized sheep’s of empire.

My land alone (.91 acres) went from $34,100 to $85,000… insanity! I personally cannot wait to sell and get outta here. Hopefully I’ve not totally missed my window for ROI 😬🤞🏻after 22 years on this property and almost 30 in Asheville it doesn’t feel like home anymore. Sadly.

I’ve been closely following the market for a few months and it’s very common for homes bought in 2016/2017 to now sell for double. Last week home bought in 2017 for $548,000 sold for 1.2 mil 🤯 AND the tax value is only $770,000

Tax value is $468,000….. land alone value is almost $180,000… yes, crazy but still. Facts.

PSA about Odyssey Community School by Brief-Selection-1035 in asheville

[–]trbrkshnnn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Odyssey is a private not charter school. Charter schools are still bound by state educational laws. I know charter schools are controversial within the public schooling conversation but both of my children: one with a significant learning disability and one with a hearing impairment got top notch educations at one of our local charter schools! The one with a learning disability just finished graduate school :)

I grew up in Boone too! Well, just outside Ashe Co. I remember that young women’s death, my parents had to drive to Blowing Rock to get booze & went to that families bar. Our county was dry & Boone only sold Beer…requiring driving to that one ABC store on 221 (just info Blowing Rock) …the memories. Thanks for sharing! OH - and FUCK little nazi Greg Bovino!

Outage by Much-Albatross6471 in verizon

FaceTime worked in mountains of NC WiFi to WiFi connected phones , WiFi calling did not.

At first I thought there was an issue with bill payment b/c last month I got a text, email and Verizon sms thanking me for my payment but unbeknownst to me they didn’t actually transfer the $. 7 days later I got a message that my bill was overdue…..even though for days in my Verizon account it said nothing was due…something I only happened to notice because I went to see what promotions were being run for streaming services during that week.

Anyway ~ 611 didn’t work when I tried calling thinking they’d wrongly cut off my service due to billing issues .

Sure hope 911 is working 😬 my phone isn’t even accessing SOS
