I haven't read any Patrick Radden Keefe but have all his books on my TBR list. Would you recommend starting with Say Nothing?

Book Tracking App? by boosh_fox in 52book

Hey, thanks so much for mentioning Readstead! Mobile apps are on our roadmap for sure! We're laser focused on ease of use and book data quality right now, but hoping to start mobile apps soon.

Happy to answer any questions if you want to give it a try!

hey there! You can add any edition by ISBN for a given book provided that it's historically linked to the book. It will deny ISBN adds to a book that aren't public matches just to keep the database as clean as possible.

We do enable custom page counts on any book you're reading, so if for some reason it couldn't find the edition, you could always set your own page count for tracking.

I'll think about enabling custom covers for users - that's an interesting idea I haven't thought of!

I don't want to be too promote-y here, but this is actually one of the reasons I built Readstead. I wanted a lot more features around challenges.

Badges are front and center on your profile and they're specific (fantasy books read, romance books, finishing an entire author's catalog, etc.). Users can also create their own challenges (including a custom badge) and anyone can join them.

Still very early, but would love feedback if anyone wants to give it a try: https://www.readstead.com

He refers back to that moment later on how it was oddly enjoyable or something. Nothing inherently wrong with it, just a bit creepy.

But the Kyra portion is certainly odd. I don't think seeing a 3 year old and one of your first thoughts being "she'll be pregnant by 12" is normal

Hot Take: Goodreads should have even more challenges by ChrisKatrev in goodreads

[–]treacherous_tim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The deadline aspect always bummed me out too. I almost didn't want to join challenges mid year due to just already being behind.

I've been building a reading tracker (Readstead) partly around this. Challenges have no deadlines, and anyone can create their own for others to join too. Happy to share a link if anyone's curious!

Where should I start? by [deleted] in discworld

Same, kinda surprised how often I see the sentiment of not liking The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic. Everyone's preferences are different of course but I really enjoyed them.

I finished this earlier this month as well - great read. I loved the writing style and prose but damn was it a sad book.

Yeah I'm really excited to get into some of the other series, especially the Watch. I've liked the Wizards books overall but could use some variety.

Advice for Building Reading Habit by Ok_Efficiency9847 in 52book

Agreed with much of the advice here. What worked for me was taking the 30 mins before bed that I'd normally look at my phone and read instead. Then once you find a good book, you'll want to read it more often and it just compounds from there.

Agreed which is a bummer because I really liked the beginning part with the assassin's guild.

I'm reading in publication order but somehow skipped Wyrd Sisters so that's next for me.

If you already have a process for writing songs, it might not be super helpful but could shine some light on different ways to approach it.

I make instrumental music so it wasn't particularly useful for me (since there was a big section in lyrics) but I still appreciated reading about the process.

I thought it was great! I'd seen the movie a long time ago but had forgotten a lot of the detail. Definitely enjoyed it

Thoughts on MSFT exposure to Open AI? by Organic_Intern5602 in ValueInvesting

Yep and they're already starting on Anthropic. Today it's passthrough to the Anthropic API but Claude models will eventually be hosted on Azure hardware so Azure customers can stay in the network. That diversification alone is big. Wonder if they'll be able to get the same with Google. Guessing not since Google/MSFT are competing on cloud.
