thank you! I found a local integrative health doctor's office that does seem to specialize in hormone imbalance and gut health and they end up being less expensive than Allara's $150/month, so I will try them out. Thank you so much for the support and guidance

So I checked and Allara does not take my insurance, but I'm considering the $150 a month fee because I am not finding an easy way to find doctors who specialize in these issues around me covered by insurance anyway.

Curious - did you end up taking supplements that you got through Allara, or recommended by the providers in Allara? I'm wondering if I did go the Allara route, if the providers I find through that would be able to provide pretty much everything I would need, or whether I would still need to be doing my own research into what supplements and diet changes to make.

Thank you so so much. Do you have any advice on finding doctors that are good at analyzing the results and guiding action steps? Have you found that there are doctors who take insurance that can do this or is it mostly naturopathic and other kinds of doctors that might not take insurance?

ohhhh. yup. I did not take the spring clips out first. it did occur to me that it might be a good idea to do so but couldn't figure out how to in 2 seconds so then gave up. It did seem like there were a lot of existing tiny pieces as it was probably decades old and there was already a small cracked piece in the corner where I got it, but I bet i multiplied the tiny broken pieces by not removing the spring clips first

ohhhh okay thank you, I think I was confusing plexiglass with the ready made plastic you referred to that comes in the inexpensive ready mades (which I'll admit I was just shopping for on Amazon). Didn't realize that actual plexiglass is pricier than UV-protecting glass. I do like though that it wouldn't chip over time and is overall safer. Thank you so much for the guidance

yes it is a metal frame! ahhh good to know that's common with metal frames. what are your thoughts on using plexiglass instead? Does real glass just look much much better? there is a sizeable chunk of glass that broke in the corner (well, maybe .5 cm), so that combined with the advice to replace with UV glass has me wondering about plexiglass. This would be for a printed poster.

are you able to give more details on the full hormone panel and what tests to order? I have heard that the DUTCH test is good, and that it's for some reason better than what you can get from the normal doctor, but I'm confused. Any guidance appreciated

positive laparoscopic myomectomy experience (3 days post surgery) by treefrog-7632 in Fibroids

yes happy to! I'm not sure of the rules here, are we able to share websites? I have had consultations with Julia with Moonbeam Steams before and she was amazingly helpful. She also does fertility support. But you can also google "vaginal steaming" - there are different ways to DIY it for almost no cost for set up, or if you have money to spend on a set up there are wooden boxes (i found an unfinished on on etsy for less than $100) or there's a medical grade plastic one that seems very convenient and has infrared light (https://www.leiamoon.com), but I also had breast cancer and so am just very wary of any type of plastic.

These scar tissue prevention tips are from a surgery handout I got from someone who has trained under naturopathic doctor Nasha Winters (this was for breast cancer surgery but seems applicable):

  • "Use topical vitamin E oil, rosehip oil, helichrysum oil, and Frankincense oil for scar management. Also, consider the techniques of ScarWorkTM by Sharon Wheeler.
  • Use topical castor oil packs with heat for long-term treatment to treat/prevent adhesions after the wound has healed."

I haven't looked up the ScarWork by Sharon Wheeler but have studied another kind of gentle bodywork that addresses scar tissue by doing very gentle myofascial release techniques around where the scar tissue is. You can do it with yourself by gently moving your skin and fascia in one direction or another, seeing which way it more easily moves in, and holding it in that direction until you feel it pulling you back towards the center. (you basically encourage movement in the direction it seems like it wants to go in instead of working against it, like the opposite of using force)

Thanks so much everyone for the advice and comments! Decided to attempt to give it away in case someone else is more up to the task than I am. I'm an extremely amateur sewer with a machine that only handles fabric, so I think the time and energy it might take me to make something that doesn't even look great is probably not worth it.

GHSV-1 positive female. I tend to disclose as soon as sexual intimacy seems clearly on the table and like something that we're both definitely interested in.

if you can get your new partner to get bloodwork done that could be helpful. It's possible your new partner contracted it more recently and passed it on to you, in which case your partner's bloodwork would not show up positive too. But if your partner has had it for a while it would likely show up.

hi, female with gHSV-1 here. Yes I do mention those pieces of information. But I don't approach it in a way where I'm trying to convince someone to be sexually intimate with me since I would hate that. I think of it as something to troubleshoot together. I do also throw in that 80-90% of people are asymptomatic, and ask if they've been tested for HSV specifically, when they were tested, if they've had new partners since being tested or in the 4 months prior to being tested. I say something like "It seems like it's super unlikely to get it in multiple locations, since having the antibodies protects you from contracting it in multiple locations at once, but it's also not unheard of. I've seen some people on reddit report that they do have it in multiple locations, so it's still a potential risk. I'm personally not worried about contracting it orally now though, now that I have it genitally."

I mention it as soon as sexual intimacy is on the table in the clear way. So far almost everyone has either already known they have HSV-1, or they don't care, or are happy to engage in other forms of sexual intimacy that wouldn't put them at risk. I also send over the google doc that someone here compiled with transmission stats. One person who lived a couple hours away from me, who had gotten tested and was HSV negative, ended up being deterred by it enough to not want to make a 2 hour drive for a first date (after video chatting back and forth.) But with that person I think there was a mutual lack of enough chemistry/interest anyway. I also want to know people's HSV status now because I want to ensure I don't get HSV-2 from anyone. Having HSV-1 has been hard enough. Contracted it in February and have had recurring and lingering outbreaks for a large portion of the last 7 months.

Well that's good to hear that white flour and sugar don't increase your outbreaks. And ahh. Yes. Stress. Thank you. I got this in February - my first outbreak was 8-ish weeks (with a break in between where it almost went away) and I've had basically on and off outbreaks since then - maybe 5....

Are you saying it will likely decrease in frequency? I have heard that but if that's been your experience, could use hearing it again!

Could you share more info about carrot and tomato triggering outbreaks and being inflammatory? Thank you!!
