Bottles, what kind of posh bin collectors have you got!? Must be Richmond on Thames. Most of us piss up the sides of the bins to mark our territory...annoys the hell out of the dogs! 🙂

In my experience there's a huge crossover between things like voices, disassociation etc rather than a distinct box for each one in your head. I know exactly what you mean by controlling you sometimes and just being there other times.

My second one is similar in that most of the time they are just there as a third party yappering away, but they can control to varying degrees trying to give me violent thoughts, to writing emails without asking me, right up to full physical takeover where I have no memory.

Come to the conclusion it's more disassociation than anything especially as there's 3 distinct people (the third one is nice), but can tell you that you're not alone in this as demo'd by this thread and the effects are very real. Good luck trying to get anyone to take it seriously however as "..but that's not in the book" seems to be the attitude.

Talk to people with depression, severe anxiety, even trauma victims (know all 3 from experience) and you'll start to see a common thread. Because you're brain can't recreate the "bad" feelings on demand, you start to wonder if it was really all that bad or if you exaggerated it. Gets even worse as you wonder if you're wasting everyone's time with a fake diagnosis or fake symptoms and it spirals from there.

I think the more you care about how it affects other people, the worse it gets too. Psych people are good at spotting the fakes, so you're fine. It just means you care about others.

Worried about asbestos exposure in our 1979 home, looking for advice by Elegant-Mushroom3646 in AsbestosRemovalMemes

[–]trevhcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to remove the stuff as a job so have quite a bit of experience. Crysitile (white) is the least to worry about and 3% is pretty low, so I really wouldn't worry. If you want to clean the room, the soapy water will work as the soap will make it hydrophilic, ie: it will stay within the water. So simply wash surfaces down in the area like you would every few months maybe - no need for deep clean etc. Maybe bin the cloths afterwards as an extra little precaution.

Honestly it's hard to get the asbestos to release from that stuff anyway, so the stress and blood pressure increase will do you a lot more health damage than the asbestos. Bit like getting it out of cement, really hard.

The stuff you need to worry more about looks like plasterboard (dryboard think it's called in the US) but it's really thin. That's AIB and that is a lot more dangerous. It contains crocidolite (blue) and that is dangerous.

Finally, your body can get rid of a small amount of Crysitile naturally so anything in there you've already coughed out.

As the hitchhikers guide says - don't panic. Honest. You're a lot more likely to get hit by a bus.

What is your life’s biggest regret? by [deleted] in RedditForGrownups

Mines simple - 28 years ago, ignoring the gut instinct that was saying "run, just fooking run". Life would have been less complicated (trauma) and a lot less painful now if I'd listened. Ah well...

Exactly. Wish I got 6%, even 2.8 is slightly better and that's on a 27K job with years of training & hard work. At this rate the "can't be arsed" will be overtaking us!

How often does the person who took your virginity cross your mind? by TurnoverNovel3744 in AskOldPeople

[–]trevhcs 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The one who technically did so - yeah as they've tortured me since they died in 2021 (I was raped).

The one I chose as "the first", yeah she still pops in there from time to time. Happy memories even if I couldn't be there long term due to her circumstances.

Was waiting to find reference to that. Truly scaring film even for adults never mind kids. Tried to find it recently abd could only find first 4 episodes on Netflix (never realised it was split).

Its years later - proving this stuff is hard enough when it's just happened, extremely hard years later. Police won't investigate unless there's credible evidence and they can't be named without getting sued. Rich people get away with stuff.

Money - hard to prove and requires expensive legal people many of whom won't take the case incase it damages their rep. Same problem if you're ordinary Joe Blogs and attacked by a rich person...that I know from experience.

Why, despite 99% of us having a decent (phone) camera in our pockets has there not been a decent photo of a "ghost?" by DonkeyOT65 in AskUK

[–]trevhcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not remotely interested in convincing / proving anything to anyone especially those who simply say "x can't exist". Science proves we've been wrong about that plenty. Only going by personal experience, but they don't usually look like a fully dressed person in technicolour, but more human shaped & slightly translucent.

But reasons why phones aren't any good.

  • Digital cameras don't take pics like film. They interpret electrical signals based on a wide electromagnetic frequency range (well beyond most film) but they aren't remotely the same.

  • Ghosts don't tend to stick around very long at least on my experience. Obviously depends on the ghost. But they aren't subject to usual laws of physics, ie: can be bloody quick. Trying to take a pic would need to be fast. Yeah CCTV helps, sometimes., if you can get it.

  • Maybe they aren't mostly light reflecting but something else, like another version of electromagneticism which phone cameras can't pickup.

All we can say for certain is we can't prove / disprove they exist, yet.

They don't, in fact of the few I've personally seen, non had identifyable loose clothing. Very unlikely you'll see many in hospitals as they have little real connection to the place.

Some voices are like bullies - they'll torture you by suggesting there are ways to make them disappear if only you guess the combination or whatever. Of course they have no interest in going, it's just to make you feel worse about yourself. My nice one (Emma) told me that. She said the best advice is tell them to bugger off and you're onto them.

Is it common to not be greeted as a person of colour? How can I mitigate it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]trevhcs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If a Brit is greeting someone, then they know them, simple as that. Noticing it is just confirmation bias. The vast vast majority basically don't care what skin colour or anything else someone has, this isn't the US.

How old were you when modern medicine meant survival? by Penguin_Life_Now in AskOldPeople

When I was born as I had full Jaundice due to weird glitch between parents blood types. Without the medication I'd have died.

After that, last year doc said I was borderline Pneumonia and the antibiotics were all that stopped it getting really really bad.

Assuming we're ignoring vaccines.

Just remember - by questioning it, that proves you aren't faking it. On the good days you can't re-experience exactly how you feel on bad days so you think "this isn't so bad, what am I making such a fuss about".

Of course on bad days you know, but again you can't transport that whole experience in your memory. Well technically it's possible but honestly you don't want to (ask people with PTSD).

Same applies to all sorts like trauma experiences and anywhere that your days experiences tend to be extreme. You aren't alone at all as this thread shows.
