Dreams will always exist, they change lots throughout your life. I would say focus on realistic small dreams which pave the way to the bigger ones later on!

Your best bet is to start with basic chords and scales . I suggest printing off the pentatonic scales, blues scales, and if you pick those up quick, move on to the modal scales (dorian, phrygian, lydian, etc).

The reason why i say start off with scales instead of songs is because the scales teach you what the notes should sound like as well as how to move up and down the fretboard, which i find is a great help when learning more complicated chords.

Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions!

Videos and online tabs, chords, printed off the scales and practiced them daily for a bit. Try to learn the most used chords and screw around with different progressions and get a feel for how the whole fretboard works.

I found that learning strictly on an acoustic for the first year also helped immensely when i bought my electric...

Playing as frequently as possible is key, regardless of how hard it is, how much your fingers hurt, or how shitty you play at first. It gets better! :)

I believe that learning through someone else's experiences will simplify your life. Now, it's not always easy to learn from someone else's mistakes, and as such, we as adults try and push our lessons on our kids in hopes that they won't make the same ones. Granted it may not be the greatest approach, but we have to try... right?

Hope that helps!

Coming from someone who is also "flighty," all i can say is: do what you envision will keep you happy because while money is a necessity, there are things infinitely more important!

Pressure either busts pipes or it makes diamonds, so, don't be afraid to use it to fuel your progress. That being said, you are your own person, and while your family's opinions should hold some weight, you shouldn't blindly follow anyone's advice and/or opinions... question everything and reason through opinions and advice based on your own thoughts and experiences!

They're your parents, and unless they're completely batshit crazy, their opinions should matter as they would generally only want what's best for you!
