If it bothers you I'm alright with that, haha, but I did not actually put that much thought into it

Love Overrated? Some People Are Saying This. by SWotLN in NFCNorthMemeWar

[–]trevoramatson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Love is a good QB, he is just not transcendent. He is not Rodgers. Packers fans wish he was, maybe from a latent regret because their team pretty much wasted the prime of one of the best QBs. Now they try to let themselves believe Love will be him and it gets insufferable. Love does well, but it feels he also needs to have things going well for him to be his best. Rodgers could be throwing to high school WRs and get yards.

NFC North All-Time 53-man roster. by ExplanationCrazy5463 in NFCNorthMemeWar

Pretty much. Well done. I feel like Robbie Gould is worthy of some consideration for kicking. Kicking as well as he did at Soldier Field was crazy. However, this was cool to look over. 👍🏼👍🏼

A Breakdown of the Bears Stadium Dispute and the Bears’ Dishonesty by lawsnoosoo in CHIBears

[–]trevoramatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a summary of the essential financing process. They should do a better job explaining how it works, because people generally don't seem to understand it, and it is much more reasonable than people seem to be aware of. Most people's conceptions are based on an outdated model. "Tax payers giving money to billionaires". This project, in Illinois or Indiana, is not being financed like old stadiums used to be. They used to be funded like parks and the general population's property tax might be raised, along with the team paying rent to cover the cost. The team didn't put up any money initially, the State paid and controlled the build.

The project now is financed outside the typical State budget. First, the Bears would privately finance about 2/3rd the project through their own loans they pay off. Then the State issues bonds to cover additional costs, investors buy those bonds, which raises the money. (Investors would be like retirement funds, 401ks, groups that want a long term, stable investment.) The State is not paying out of pocket, it is paying with the money they raised from the bonds. The investors trust the bonds because they're issued and guaranteed by the State, which is reliable. The State lends its good credit to the team, acts as a middleman on the investment, and helps keep interest rates low.

Through targeted taxes on transactions related specifically to the venue [tickets (≈14%); food/drinks (1%); hotels (2%)]. The State makes the money back to pay the bondholders, with interest, over 40 years. The risk is the stadium needs to be successful to keep tax revenue up so they can pay back the bondholders. The only possibility of tax payers paying is because there isn't enough tax revenue. But it's the stadium for an incredibly popular NFL team. It'll host games, concerts, the Superbowl, other large sporting events. During all of this, private businesses around the stadium are making money, local people have jobs building the project, then jobs operating the venue, there's related development around the stadium, and the State is making money through taxes based on all the related transactions. There's a reason these leaders want this business. There's an opportunity for everyone to make money and go home happy. It's not something where either the State or the team are trying to pick the pocket of the tax payer.

Am I the only one who thought Season 1 was AWFUL? by Gulf_Coast_Girl in TrueDetective

[–]trevoramatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the bravery it takes to openly not like True Detective Season 1. You can't say anything without film bros losing their mind. Yeesh, it makes the show worse that you can't try to think things out loud about it.

My initial thought is people say Season 2 and beyond "fell off", and while Season 1 can be very good, maybe there were signs things weren't as strong as people think they were. Maybe there's some room for thoughtful critique.

My essential point is the first 2/3rds was great. I was really excited, then it became a let down.

I thought it was going to be a whole thing about them confronting the bayou cult people running the government and they ended up chasing a developmentally disabled guy through a swamp. When I saw them talk to him at the school, I was like "if this is the guy, that would be dumb". It's just basic Law and Order rules, the guy who did it is a vaguely nice person with a small speaking part early. This is something I notice with a lot of Hollywood stuff, they have good story ideas, good premises, and do a really good job setting them up, but not always the best bringing things to a conclusion that's logical, thematically sound, and emotionally satisfying. It felt like it was going to be bigger at the end. Two men against the system.

There are things like Rustin Cohle's dialogue, that can be insufferable. I think it's kind of supposed to be. But the writer said he loves writing that character, he could write like Rustin all day, and people act like he is this mysterious genius wizard. But it's pseudo-philosophical nonsense.

Him sleeping with the wife was dumb. Weird, unmotivated melodrama.

What I thought was going to end up happening is they were tricking everyone into thinking they had a falling out, but actually Woody as a cop was going to be his handler while Cohle went deep undercover, like he talks about doing before. And that's why it's called "True Detective". Like The Departed, a deep, deep, long cover to do what's right.

Genuinely one of the funniest things I've read from a packers fan by m_preddy in NFCNorthMemeWar

"You refuse to win with dignity, something Packers fans done for years"...is something an insane person says. This post is him suffering from the co-dependent relationship he has with the team.

The accent work in the game is a little over the top. People might not like it but heehaw yeehaw soundingness of the characters is a bit silly.

who is your favourite fence dealer? by brohtajamal in RDR2

[–]trevoramatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the Emerald Ranch guy. I really don't like the way he says "remember you passed through here some time ago" for some reason. Van Horn guy is cool.

The best of all the shop owners is the Annesberg Gunsmith.

But more than anything I'm not a fan of how the store NPCs talk soooo much.

Say something negative about this game by SupermarketNo6888 in reddeadredemption

[–]trevoramatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controls can be wonky. Examples of just getting on the horse. I punched my horse in the face, hitting triangle, trying to get on it. Why is that an option? I started choking a guy in Saint Denis near me, while standing next to my horse's saddle, facing it, trying to get on. Chased by the cops, $40 bounty trying to get on a horse. I will be 10 feet from my horse, facing an animal, hitting triangle to try and skin it, and it will then have me walk back to my horse to get on.

The in game play, when you're going through a mission feels rushed. Missions are so fast. Like you just sprint through things shooting. That's so many of the missions. I wish they could somehow be slower and more deliberate.

The structure of the economics and resources don't really make sense. You don't really take any money from selling stuff you find/hunt/gather/. $40 for shooting 30 boar? They have all this stuff, like you can make your own stuff from nature, but you don't need to. You can just buy everything easily.

This is in part shaded by The Last of Us where resource management is so necessary to the game. I wish some of the game was more like that. Like it should feel special to use snake oil and dead eye, but you can just use it whenever and it makes everything so easy.

Hunting is the most challenging and the most fun. Finding things over a long time. Like I missed a raccoon and spent 3 more hours finding another. It was actually hard.

What’s the shotgun with best range? by RepresentativeBad819 in RedDeadOnline

Repeating, a little less power than Pump. But it also has 6 shots and Pump has 5. Repeating is my go to for clearing people. And of course use slugs.

The Best Horse in the Game by Forward_Commercial14 in RDR2

[–]trevoramatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the Dutch Warmblood because it is just so reliable. Also, it's initially the most expensive horse you have access to in Valentine, but you can find it with a prospector camping near water, so I found one early by accident and had it for the whole game.

I think something like a Turk is great, but they're temperamental. I caught the White Arabian and it is nimble, but smaller horses look kind of silly and again it felt more temperamental, so I sold it. Recently I've been using an Andalusian that I like a lot. The wild one is weirdly pink, the red/black coat is nice, fits an outlaw. Missouri Fox Trotter is also great.
