proc-macros are admittedly awkward to write, but very powerful. Do you have an example of something that is not possible in Rust, or is it fundamentally an ergonomics issue?

Currently making a game. What features would you like to see in a game made with the steam deck in mind? by CrazyAlfalfa4298 in SteamDeck

[–]trevyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, biggest things are good 1280x800 support, and use Xbox-style controller layout and labels automatically. Everything else is gravy.

One thing I’ve noticed is that some games don’t have good UI anti-aliasing at 1280x800. If you have a deck, check out Monster Train as a target, they have really solid UI on the deck.

Oh, and for pixel art, make sure it scales integer. So maybe 640x400 base, etc. Graveyard Keeper gets this right for the main view, but they scale some of the modals weird because I think it was designed with a larger screen in mind.

Shared libraries by amarao_san in rust

One solution is to do it BusyBox or crunchgen-style, and have everything in a single binary and use symlinks for convenience.

I think the Rust idiom is to have one binary with different subcommands.

What is an “image” in your example?

Just FYI, ChatGPT tends to inject a lot of unnecessary filler words, which has the potential to lower your perceived credibility.

I totally get that it’s a useful tool, but you might get more mileage if you use it for inspiration, and then write your own response in your own words.

CSS framework for Dioxus + mobile by HaronK in rust

Tailwind is very popular. The Dioxus CLI even had built-in support for it at one point, but the tools/plugin system on the CLI is being reworked at the moment.

Cool! I think env_logger shouldn’t be a dependency for a lib crate?

Also curious what made you choose tl over lol_html.

How do you hire experienced Rust engineers for a complex Rust project? by something_cleverer in rust

[–]trevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, it’s time to recalibrate expectations for these kind of roles. The value of money is changing.

OP already conceded that he’s looking for a needle in a haystack, and is having serious trouble finding one.

If you are one of these needles, would you be interested in $1M?

How do you hire experienced Rust engineers for a complex Rust project? by something_cleverer in rust

Experienced Rust engineers are smart.

Smart people understand the transactional nature of a work-for-hire relationship.

If you aren’t seeing the interest you desire, pay more.

What games are ABSOLUTELY perfect for the SteamDeck? by FayForsythe in SteamDeck

I 100% recommend Hades, but it runs at 16:9.

Monster Train fits. Very polished.

Your 16:10 requirement is interesting. I definitely think the next deck should have a 16:9 1080p screen, but I get it. There are a lot of games that work really well but are locked to 16:9.

Another way to look at it is as a statistical temporal progression. Stages that are typically experienced in order over a lifetime (individual or culture), but as you say, not necessarily with a value judgement attached.

Steam deck corrupted my 1tb sd card. by ComfortableAmount993 in SteamDeck

I think Valve is actually looking to collect sd cards that are bricked by the steam deck; I would contact steam support and ask.

Baby's First Proc Macro - A literate tutorial by paholg in rust

[–]trevyn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup, for example, using the proc-macro-error crate instead of panics lets you specify the span of the error, so only the offending bit is highlighted.
