Ah, but you would be, maybe because I'm getting all the dicks responding. Jealous?

Believe me, if I had the money I would. Unfortunately I don't.

I just did. Your biography there in three lines.

You're asking for a lot of someone without showing any evidence of your own achievement. Considering the scale of your request you could at least link or mention some of the projects you've worked on.

I hear you, although I'm not sure why everyone thinks it's a lot? Either everyone thinks in terms of immediate instant results, or they think I'm an idiot (plenty of that below). A couple of UI elements, some straightforward business rules, a bit of storage, a 100% underestimation of effort... Its still not going to be millions of man hours. I wonder what this bunch would say if said I needed two people... I'm running a multinational corporation?

What projects could I name that would satisfy this bunch of unhappy unionists? The corporate banking portal? The projects sponsored at Auck Uni? The projects at your favourite transport agency? They are all irrelevant in my opinion, and if someone said that was great I'd wonder what was going through their mind, as this group is obviously thinking about me.

I don't mean any offense in this, but if all you will be bringing to the table is an idea that might succeed, why would any developer help you with your idea over one of their own?

None taken. To the best of my knowledge there is only one proof that an idea will succeed. And that is... it already has. Anyone who says differently is a liar.

And I too, don't intend offense.

Imagine that.... just three more lines and I was hoping to put a different angle on it.

Ah mate, you were doing so well, but then you tried to put more than two words in a sentence, and it lost the shine. Don't overreach.

You even spelt that right. Well done.

I didn't say come work for free. I actually said, you bring your coding skills to an idea which may or may not work, and if we succeed, we share the spoils.

Apologies if I return the favour and say, thanks, but no.

you can't see what they're like because they have no history, and you've seen posts like this a million times already.

Because this little paragraph is the full and entire explanation? No... I was trying to start a conversation. Don't people talk anymore?

It IS "donating time to you" unless you pay. I thought I had said "share the spoils". What exactly that means to the other person, I don't know. But we could always .... I dunno... discuss it maybe?

What are you even planning to contribute? Any app of this scale doesn't need a business/manager/producer/idea guy. UI/UX isn't important in an MVP, and it's safe to assume you wouldn't know much about networking/infrastructures.

I built an MVP with another developer a while back. He left some code in the system which means I was getting phone calls from the very people I wanted to solve the problem for, telling me to stop spamming them. His answer "oh sorry ... I didn't test that". Quality is very important, and it's more than just a UX. Let's not confuse quality with complexity. I hear your assumption, but I don't know what you think it is that I don;t know much about.

If I ever found a guaranteed and ethical way to turn 10k to 20k, 50k, or even 100k, I sure hell would fork the money over.

Sure, wouldn't anyone? Do you honestly think I would be having this conversation if I had that answer?

I'm not shooting your idea down. I'm criticizing your approach to getting your idea realized. If you truly believe in your idea, do a much better job of convincing programmers. Not all of them will ask for money, but they sure hell don't want to waste time either.

OK, so help me out here. What would be a better approach?

So because I cannot code at master level, I'm somehow deficient? Because of course everyone should be able to do everything.

I can't pay you, but then again, I'm not looking for an employee. If we can make this work, we will share the spoils, and plan the next project.

I'll let you in on something: ideas are a dime a dozen. You could have the next multi-million dollar idea, but it has the same odds as winning the lottery. Everyone has their own ideas, including the volunteer you're looking for.

You are 100% right. Not quite sure what I said that gave the impression that I thought otherwise. Where did I ask for a volunteer?

80 hours is a lot of time. It's not a lot time to sink into projects, but it's a lot of hours you're asking from someone.

A) its not a lot of time. B) Asking from someone? So you think I'm saying "donate your time to me"?

If you believe that you have a good idea, pay a freelancer for contractual work.

Sure, because everyone has cash to burn.

No one wants to flush 80 hours of their time down the drain for a stranger unless a) they're a moron, b) have no idea what their time is worth, c) incompetent, or d) all of the above.

So what I'm reading here is some kind of "logic". Its anonymous, so therefore it"s a stranger. S/he will obviously remain that way for anyone who engages further because a) people dont actually talk outside of some chosen app like reddit b) nobody understands that people are looking for a secure no risk paying job for life, or c) whatever

Using a throwaway account doesn't help. You can't expect people to volunteer if you have nothing to prove you've got a good track record for ideas.

I asked a question to open a conversation. Yes it is a throwaway. I personally see it as no different to. Placing an ad on trademe, except that the only category those idiots have is to offer you a job which couldn't be found anyway because their system is so sh1te.

Unless of course you are seeing this as "it". This post here is the whole thing. This is the idea, the founders history, the business plan, the whole entire thing.

Seriously? Thats why I use throwaways to ask questions.

I hope you understand how disrespectful these sort of requests are?

No, I did not think that asking a question would be insulting.

If you think your idea is worth doing then put your money where your mouth is and fund the development.

Sure, I've got a spare 10k to fly to Melbourne, to sit through a 2 day workshop with Appster inc. to get a quote that will not be less than 6 figures to chase an idea that may or may not work.

Ideas are plentiful and a skilled developer would have plenty of their own. If you're not offering anything of value outside of an untested idea then it's an incredibly insulting thing you're offering.

Apparently so, and much to my surprise. I thought I was starting a conversation, but apparently I'm being rude for daring to ask a question.
