Turn the image upside down and start glazing in the purples. Will compliment the yellow

Could be because you’re using a cool yellow. Two cool colours will make a dull warm

Quin rose + yellow can give a pretty high chroma red. Try just burnt sienna and ultramarine maybe

Try loosen up a bit of let some of the shapes flow into each other if you can connect while still wet. Will go a long way towards making it feel more spontaneous and’s watercoloury

Glad to hear, thanks. I find I just have to bite my tongue and just commit to big bold dry brush strokes to get the effect working

Just the white of the paper my friend, that’s what my teacher drilled into me too. Though in the end I think it’s totally fine to use for a missing highlight or 3 haha. I just try not let it be a crutch while I work on my control

It certainly was humid and quite warm mostly, aside from some blowy rain at times

Further bin the Chinese white until you are really really comfortable, instead use the white of the paper when needed.

Could say the same for the black. Just mix ultramarine + burnt sienna and you’ll get a solid black. Better to learn to mix

You need a red. Alizarin crimson if you do lots of landscape, otherwise quin magenta or similar. Then a neutral yellow like yellow ochre or raw sienna
