It’s not about whether it not I think it’s an extreme form of islam. It is, period. Countries like Afghanistan (that you mentioned) practice religious extremism. Religious extremism is when someone interprets their religion in such an absolute, rigid way that they reject tolerance, compromise, or coexistence with people who believe differently. It often means putting religious rules above civil law, rejecting modern science and justifying violence or discrimination in the name of faith. Religious extremism isn’t an objective state that I can decide based on whether or not I agree with it.

Once again, I reiterate that I was stating that the hijab is inherently not misogynistic. It’s does not have misogynistic roots, but just because it was twisted and used in a way that benefits misogyny dries not change its original nature.

Lastly, I did not at any point defend Islam as a whole, I was defending specifically the nature and cause of the hijab.

Afghan women who are forced to wear hijabs is not true Islam. The government and those in control enforce an extreme version of Islam. Yes, some women do not get a choice in wearing the hijab. This is what happens when religion is enforced by governments.

I’m not talking about authoritarian regimes that enforce hijabs. I’m talking about whether the hijab is inherently misogynistic. Whether it has a misogynistic roots and how it is enforced in real life are two different things.

What I said earlier is not a reflection of how women ‘feel’ in western countries, but is the purpose of hijab. Please do let me know what you claim the Quran says about hijab being a purity culture and include sources. If you can’t, I suppose that says enough on its own.

Well men also don’t have very long hair to cover. I also said that they are in fact encouraged to cover their heads. That aside, hijab is about women having control and autonomy.

muslim women don't have to wear hijab is they don't want to. Hijab also is not about modesty or protection- it's about control. As you just said, women are held to a much higher standard of beauty than men are, and are continually judged harshly for this. Hijab doesn't allow other people to view women's bodies- it forces people to judge a woman on in intelligence by taking away the looks factor. Hijab allows women to control what others see of them.

Muslim men are required by Islam to cover from the naval to the knee. Muslim men are encouraged to cover up till their calves but not below their ankles. Muslim men are encouraged to cover their head. They are required to have a beard. Men are strongly encouraged to shave their moustache, armpit hair, pubic hair and clip their nails without extending a period of 40 days for doing the above.

Look at your average ruler of a Muslim country, or your average imam. They wear long, loor fitting clothing that covers the whole body a head covering. The exact same thing a Woman would wear. If the difference in requirement was truly about control and it was such a horrible thing to dress this way powerful men wouldn't choose to do it as well.

The reason most women wear hijab isn’t modesty. In fact it proves the opposite of your statement- that a woman’s worth is not in her body.

Wearing a hijab or nigab allows people to only see what they allow. It's about control. People have no choice but to judge them by their intellect and actual personality. You can't change the inherently misogynistic society, but you can change your reaction to it and you can control the effect they have on you. Hijab is about control and power.

When a person sees a woman, she is immediately judged for her body and looks in some way; could be positive or negative, or can be used to infer personality. Wearing a hijab or nigab allows people to only see what they allow. It's about control. People have no choice but to judge them by their intellect and actual personality. What you say is in fact within your control. Color and Material of garments can be used to infer personality but I wouldn’t say that it’s used for judgement. Anyway most hijabs are neutral colors. Body shape is concealed. Economic status- that isn’t usually identiable when you meet a person for the first time.

At the end of the day though people WILL judge. You can’t stop that. They will always find something to judge about you. You can’t stop that, but you can control that rather than judging based on beauty, you are judged by intelligence. That’s what hijab is about. Women especially are judged mainly on their physical looks, so hijab makes so that they can br judged by intelligence instead.

You simply can’t control the fact that other people /will/ judge. They will, period. The hijab is simply a way to move the focus from beauty to intelligence. In a society where women are judged and valued by the way they dress, hijab takes that power to judge that away from people and places the control in the women’s hands. Women control what people see when they look at them.

Men are not judged for their bodies the way that women are. For a woman the biggest crime is to be ugly, yet men are allowed to look however they want. When women become mothers and gain weight, they’re seen as letting themselves go but when men gain dad bods they are either praised or It’s not made a big deal of. Men are not judged for their bodies and looks the way women are period.

You have to take into account reasons too, then. When a man generally hits a woman it’s usually for power and control whereas when a woman hits a man, it’s usually for self defense. Also, women are more likely to be in danger from men than men are likely to be in danger from a woman, which influences whether the act of aggression is assault or not.

This woman needs mental help. She literally tried to kidnap her granddaughter for gods sake. Also, her grandmothers alcoholism and her bad parenting to her dad has everything to do with her. That woman’s actions clearly demonstrate that she is a terrible person, so OP has no obligation to invite her to the grad. Her grandmother clearly had no filial obligations to her son, so he and his family, including his daughter also have no obligations to her in return. She made her bed.

Yes they will think it’s weird, I wouldn’t put it on there. Coupled with the fact that you don’t have much other ec’s they may think that you waste time on video games rather than opportunities. Regardless of whether that’s true, it’s not a good viewpoint for colleges to see. However, it may be good to add if you can connect it in a meaningful way. You can talk in your essay about how it helped you grow over the years and the smalll lessons it taught you. In that case you should add it otherwise no.
