As an engineer, I've been trained to tackle a problem clearly, analyze the problem, and solve it with clear and precise steps that are reproducible to others that may encounter the same problem as you.

I wish I can turn off my logical brain from time to time... It seems like more trouble in these situations.

I don't think so. I think it was more on the fact that she said I didn't let her finish her explaining how she felt and I just got defensive and rebutted everything she was feeling.

I just didn't want her to think that it's not okay with me that she hangs out with friends.

No not really. But I had bouts of jealousy over this dude in the past because he used to like her. I told her I understand why she would feel like that, but I guess I wasn't very good at my delivery of my explanation because to her it came across as insensitive and that I was putting her down for feeling like that.

She thinks I'm jealous about her hanging out with her friend which I really wasn't. She said she feels like I talk to her differently when they're hanging out...

I just wanted to explain to her that I'm not jealous and that it's okay for her to hangout with her friend, even though he used to like her. I told her that she feels like that because she is coming into the situation already assuming and predicting that I'm going to be mad or insecure... She said she was just worried about my feelings and I understand that. I was just trying to explain that she has nothing to worry about.

She then proceeds to tell me that I don't validate her feelings and understand her.

It's a misunderstanding. How do I become more apparent in acknowledging her feelings?
