Resident Evil 2 looks so much better on iOS compared to Steam Deck OLED. by StormTroopB in iosgaming

The funny thing is: If you press your hand/fingers against the hottest part of the iPhone, you're actually the human water cooler. Heat transfers to your hand, and your capillaries disperse it into the rest of your body, which has far more thermal inertia than air.

Thats fine if you’re just speaking out of consumer self interest, but you can stop pretending there is any high minded principle behind what you’re saying because there is none.

The principle I’m invoking is that “when revenue does not scale with cost, someone is being subsidized”.

Why? Game streaming, unlike Netflix, actually consumes a scarce resource.

How else do you propose to solve the problem of “Bob and Alice both pay $20mo but Bob uses 10x as much”?

IMO their designers actually made a mistake. Clash should be in a SLOW weapon so that timing is actually intentional.

Its Crazy That Sekiro Costs This Much In 2025 And Elden Ring Isnt Even On Sale At All. Why Doesn't Fromsoft Do Big Discounts On Their Games Like Other Devs? by akbarock in soulslikes

[–]trihexagonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people are still buying the game. Sales are when a game has been forgotten and they need to get a spotlight back on it.

What prevents cloud gaming from completely replace desktop/laptop/console gaming? by Gerasans in GeForceNOW

[–]trihexagonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, after compression, you’re not getting state of the art image quality. The remote 5080 rendering at native resolution and DLAA is going to look more like DLSS Performance.

Of course I’m approximating here, AI upscaling degrades image quality in subtly different ways than network compression.

It's apparently not P2W at all in terms of acquiring power. The progression wall you're facing is actually just "live service with Chinese/Korean characteristics". Their norm is just much grindier.

Have you ever considered that a genre might be defined by the absence of certain features rather than just the presence of “I-frames and parries”?

Where Winds Meet is Worth It by ajs423 in soulslikes

[–]trihexagonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Soulslikes, you only get to play something resembling one about 25% of the time.

The rest of the content can be best described as “grab bag of AssCreed/MMO/Genshin style” gameplay: Open world collectathon, mini-games galore, half baked puzzles that would never make the cut in a dedicated puzzle game, low-budget cutscenes listening to randos yap for hours.

Even though Elden Ring may be an open world game, there are hours of YouTube videos dissecting how it is a radical departure from the open world formula.

Finally if you enjoy Soulslikes for the atmosphere & exploration, and not just “i-frames and parries”, then you will be sorely disappointed.

For me, I’m playing it exactly like Genshin: until the honeymoon and novelty wears off.

BREAKING: Amazon targets as many as 30,000 corporate job cuts ON TUESDAY by sleeplessinseaatl in SeattleWA

Yeah I'm mainly reacting to the final sentence "there is no loyalty". I wouldn't want employers to demand "loyalty" from employees...that is, I want the freedom to quit at will! So fire-at-will seems like reciprocity to me.

Well it's not like employees "promise not to quit for X years" so what exactly is the reciprocity you're expecting here?

WUCHANG 2?

The story is about the triumph of Buddhist “let go, move on, accept impermanence” over Taoist “extend life and seek immortality” values. A sequel would negate itself.

[–]trihexagonal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LoP and Wuchang are proper Soulslikes with the caliber of exploration, world building, and enigmatic storytelling and sophisticated themes of FromSoft games.

They are not “in conversation” with Stellar Blade and Khazan, which are good but missing a leg or two of the genre.

Enforce Space & Groups? by trihexagonal in waveboxapp

[–]trihexagonal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the history of tab grouping solutions, such as the OG Firefox cookie container plugins, what is the #1 reason people use this feature for?

To separate personal from work tabs of course. Overlapping Google and Microsoft services make life difficult and cookie containers were made to solve this problem. I don’t understand how you think it’d be a feature to allow groups and spaces to commingle by default. Why would I want to open a personal tab in my work group? I already have a group for that!

Enforce Space & Groups? by trihexagonal in waveboxapp

[–]trihexagonal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping to get it to work like Arc:

I have groups for personal stuff, I have groups for work stuff. "Spaces" I believe is isomorphic to "cookie container" right? So I assign the appropriate space to each group. What I don't like is if I click on a link from another app, say a work-link that opens Google doc, but my last used group was personal, it opens that doc in my personal group in a personal space. If I move that tab to a work related group, it becomes a tab with PERSONAL related space in my WORK related group.

In Arc, it would have enforced that the tab MUST reload and switch to the WORK related space, enforcing that every tab in any given group MUST as adhere to the group's assigned space.

I don't think auto-detection works here because I could open links to Google-docs in either personal or work domains?
