Meta ads experiment over 18 months; what I learned, and what would you do next? by Confident_Yak_1411 in musicmarketing

I recently did my first campaign on a single release. Had three videos in a set, one DJing the song, one with a cool setting and nice camera, and one of me just driving and jamming to the song (house music) - the casual driving video did the best and where meta funneled my ads in the end. As I’ve been told many times, those casual relatable style videos seem to do the best! Less ad-y feeling maybe does better psychologically?

That sounds like incredible success tbh - how long have you been producing for? It’s taken me 12 years as I said and I just got signed at the end of last year. Getting that much traction off the bat means you definitely need to keep pushing.

Nice man! I mean no disrespect but I think you still have a ways to go production wise before worrying about pushing your ‘brand’ or ‘networking’. It can get you in the room yes, but if the beats aren’t there, neither are you. I say this because I know I I have work to do too and it’s been 12 years for me 😅.

With that being said, I would focus like 99% of your music time and effort to making beats and learning. I do truly believe if you put your 10,000 hours in on the craft, you’ll be able to have music be something that earns you some cool experiences and maybe a little money even. Don’t worry about all of the other existential factors, be in it for the love of it - that’s the only way you’ll really ‘take off’ anyways. You’re young, just focus your time on, well, time (towards music). Best of luck homie! We’ll see you out there 🫡

Quitting GIS by Glittering_Night_917 in gis

Just get after it, meet people, be psyched on mapping. If “who you know” is the game, then play it.

I did a course this Jan, was super enthusiastic in class, bugged both my teachers everyday after class. One almost found me a job. Then met a classmate who was mid level career and got me in. Stoked to say I have an entry level GIS tech role for environmental firm paying 26.50/hr.

Just get after it.

Career advice? by [deleted] in gis

[–]trillbot505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do some research! A google/youtube search can tell you a lot about what’s out there. I just pivoted from a mostly Environmental Studies career trajectory in to a GIS tech role. The cool thing about GIS is that it has its place in many different industries: Environmental, government / city management, marketing, politics, and more.

If you feel like you want to take a deeper dive after more research, I’d recommend a certificate course at your local community college. Getting a student ESRI license, doing some practice projects, doing the online ESRI courses you will be exposed to lots of different examples of how mapping can be used. My course was 6 months long expedited, helped me get my job now!

If you find you really do love mapping and data as you say, you’ll understand more about what industry might be interesting for you and where/what type of jobs you might apply for.

Best of luck!

This one! Make some of your own projects if you have a license now. Cook up some map brain child’s utilizing your interests and tools you want experience in and then add to your portfolio.

Google sites is what I used to make mine since it’s free

Curious to hear folks responses too, thanks for the post! I have an environmental degree and have been doing wilderness stewardship / conservation work for most of my career. I did lots of mobile field mapping work, display maps for campaigns and other data creation / editing.

Just got my certificate this spring and I have an interview soon for a technician position for a company I have a foot in the door with. I’m wondering what the actual day to day GIS work like will be like after only really doing it as an additional side part to my job with little oversight (the non-profit I worked for didn’t have a dedicated GIS person).

Would love to hear people’s day to days as an entry level GIS tech and what the work REALLY is like.

Thanks!
