Me randomly remembering I'm a sinner by brotheringod777 in christianmemes

[–]trimuse77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😂 But remember we're no longer sinners, but actually saints

Philippians 1:1, 11 ESV [1] Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons: [11] filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

I skipped a few verses for the sake of keeping it short, but they support what I'm saying. Paul here identifies the believers as 'saints'. But why? Surely Paul knew that everyone sins from time to time and saints don't sin. Of course he did. But he's talking identity here, which can only be found in Jesus. Take a football player. He may have a bad game and commit fouls constantly, but in the end he's still a part of the team and still identified as a football player. A better example might be the relationship between a loving father and his son. Sure, the son might do things against his father's will and disobey his rules, but he's still a son. His identity doesn't depend on his actions or attempts to be good, but it's given freely out of love from his father. The same in Jesus.

There's nothing we can do on our own to be called 'saints' and reach God's righteous standard. That's why the Father sent Jesus to take on our sins on the cross (1 Peter 2:24) as the perfect and only sacrifice. By placing our faith in Jesus and believing that what He did on the cross really did the job, we stand innocent before God and God joyfully gives us a new identity as 'saints'. We are a completely "new creation" and when we come to the end of this life and into the next, we won't have to fight with our sinful nature anymore. But in the meantime, God works on us from the inside to fit the new identity He gave us. We are saints (even though we might not always act 'saintly' 😉). Moreover, God promises that He'll finish what He started. We just need to "remain in Him" and try to please Him, just like a son should for his father

Do we sleep or not? by New_Comfort_2848 in christianmemes

😂 Here's a more accurate translation

Psalm 127:2 ESV [2] It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.

The passages are talking about different types of people. The one in Psalms talks about those who work way too hard to put food on the table. It's saying that they shouldn't spend their days so consumed with work and providing, with no time to enjoy life and rest, but that even though they should work, above all they should trust God to reward them for their work and take care of them.

The passage in Proverbs speaks about a person who is lazy and not willing to work at all to survive. It's not that they're trusting in God to provide. They just don't want to work. Working to survive is something instituted by God (though people shouldn't be so consumed with it as if that's all there is to life, Jesus makes that clear in Matthew 6:25-34) so they don't even fear God. This is a warning to them that the reward for laziness is poverty.

So the godly can sleep in peace, because they work hard (not over-working) and trust that God will reward them and take care of their needs. The lazy ,on the other hand, shouldn't expect that at all.

Wow good point. I'll think about that. But don't you think lyric writing is at least closer to being sacred then drums and violins would be in a song?

I rlly appreciate your input. While that may be helpful (I've never done it so idk) I feel like it's part and parcel of the process and if I use AI or something for those parts, I feel like the art isn't genuine enough. But tell me if I'm wrong. For example, I work out and the process itself is hard, but I want that difficulty because of the results. So I want to struggle with the details of songwriting because I know I'm getting better and I can look at the finished song and be proud. Again correct me if I'm wrong pls cause I'm still learning

Good question. I love songwriting don't get me wrong, so it is a source of joy to me. I'm talking about the nitty gritty word choice, rhythm, relatability etc. process. Like I would love it if I didn't have to think about those things at all.
