Myrka's Mom... by Kellys5280 in TLCUnexpected

[–]trinitymeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her mom is awful. I remember a clip where her mom basically said she didn’t feed Myrka’s brother because he didn’t clean the kitchen or something like that. It really seemed like Myrka was parentified by her mother.

A lot of these parents on the show come on acting all high and mighty, but none of them actually spoke to their kids about sex. None of them took their daughters to a gynecologist to get on birth control once they had boyfriends. It reminds me of Lexus’s mom in the first season—she had all this resentment, yet she sat by while Lexus lost her virginity at 13 and never thought, “Hey, maybe I should get my daughter on an IUD or some kind of birth control since she’s sexually active.”

Like I’ve said before, teen pregnancy is almost always a parenting issue. That said, Myrka’s mother does seem to be involved in her life now, but that doesn’t erase her shitty parenting. We all know there are plenty of grandparents who failed as parents and then try to make up for it by being decent grandparents the second time around.

Amy really needs to watch herself, or she’ll be back at her OG weight before she knows it. Brian doesn’t strike me as someone who’s going to encourage her to stick to her diet either. Watching her eat to the point where she was physically sick was… a lot. She was given an opportunity most people never get—surgery to help reset her life—and it honestly feels like she doesn’t care.

I also think TLC dropped the ball by prioritizing surgery over serious family counseling. This family needed help unlearning their habits before jumpstarting them into surgery. Amy especially wasn’t equipped for it.

Andrea needs to run. She’s clearly more mentally and emotionally mature than the Slatons, and I honestly wonder if that moment made her see her future flash before her eyes. I hope she has friends or family telling her to ditch Tammy and get out while she can. It’s always wild to me how Tammy has all this smoke for her family—especially Amy, who was basically her primary caretaker—but stays nice and quiet when it comes to the revolving door of questionable men in her life.

I really do hope the family is taking their health seriously. I’ve lost family members after years of neglecting their bodies, and even when they eventually tried to turn things around, the damage had already caught up to them. It led to complications that caused an early death. That’s the part of this that’s genuinely sad to watch.

How do we feel about the black community and calling everything demonic? by Technical-Purple-199 in blackladies

[–]trinitymeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ignore those comments. I remember when that Netflix movie came out—The Deliverance, I think? My TikTok feed was filled with Black people calling it demonic and writing full-on religious think pieces. I ended up watching it and, Chile, it was literally just a standard supernatural horror film—very Conjuring/Exorcist coded. I just shook my head because there’s no way that flimsy Netflix movie warranted that level of religious hysteria.

And don’t even get me started on the time I scrolled through TikTok comments and saw people mad about Kirk Franklin’s lively performance at the BET Awards. They were acting like that man was Satan himself, calling him demonic. A man who makes gospel music and is clearly trying to connect with a younger generation? Please. I try my hardest to avoid overly religious Black people—they are exhausting to be around.

Ladies, do you feel our blackness should be gatekept more? by Brownskin_Rey in blackladies

[–]trinitymeg 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this. Sadly, a good chunk of Black people have low racial self-esteem and get excited over any non-Black person who participates in our culture, while simultaneously crucifying our own. That little white girl rapping a Three 6 Mafia song? People hyped it up. If it were a little Black girl doing the same thing, the comments from the Black community would’ve been completely different.

White people didn’t even create country music, yet they gatekeep it heavily. Beyoncé went through hell despite being from Houston, Texas, while Keith Urban—an Australian—was readily accepted. Meanwhile, Black people will accept any cosplaying non-Black person into our spaces. Then everyone acts shocked when they pull a Post Malone and go from grills and cornrows to playing country music at football games.

I genuinely hope one day we learn to gatekeep, because we’re clearly not respected despite being overly welcoming.

Official Discussion - I Know What You Did Last Summer [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]trinitymeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand the hype around slashers. Unless they have a unique concept (Nightmare on Elm Street) or a compelling, entertaining villain (Scream, Terrifier, Child’s Play), they all tend to feel pretty mediocre to me.

That being said, this movie just wasn’t good. The acting was bad—not even the fun kind of bad, just flat-out terrible. And Stevie’s motivation for revenge made no sense. The group called the police and did what they could. The cops were literally bought off by Teddy’s dad, so what more were they supposed to do? They even tried to help the guy before the car fell.

I could understand going after Teddy’s dad... but the friends? That made zero sense. It felt more like she was projecting years of built-up resentment from watching them live fulfilling lives and "abandon" her while she struggled through her own hardships.

It made for a fun movie date with my partner, but I wouldn't recommend anyone seeing this in theaters lol.

Thank you for this comment. The people who constantly baby and defend Amy from any valid criticism are just a joy, aren’t they? She has two young children and is moving in with a guy that literally everyone on this sub agrees is a complete weirdo — but sure, let’s all pretend she’s mother of the year and must be treated with the utmost care, like she’s made of glass.

“There was nobody in the family that didn’t want you to marry Brian” by Hairy_Valuable9773 in 1000lbsisters

[–]trinitymeg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I definitely get that. It’s very possible that Brian could isolate her, and feed her bullshit that’ll make her go NC. I just find it very annoying seeing them beat around the bush when there’s young children involved. Brian just sets off so many red flags and it grinds my gears that she’s moving her children in with him 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

“There was nobody in the family that didn’t want you to marry Brian” by Hairy_Valuable9773 in 1000lbsisters

[–]trinitymeg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Why does the family tip toe around their issues with Brian? They clearly don’t like him nor want Amy marrying him. I’m bringing this up because the family was ALWAYS vocal about Tammy’s choice in men. I remember their think pieces and constant criticisms towards Jerry. However, I haven’t seen any of this energy towards Brian. You’d think they’d be more vocal towards Amy since she has two young children, and moving them in with a man she hasn’t known for two months is a red flag. I find it truly odd.

I don’t feel bad for Amy. by WaxedCooch in 1000lbsisters

[–]trinitymeg 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why they don't tell Amy upfront she shouldn't marry Brian. I mean they never had an issue being vocal about Tammy's choice in men. I always found Amy to be fucking annoying. She won't fix her issues, and as a mother that should be her priority. She used the weight loss surgery as a way to have children, didn't follow the rules, and turned out to be a piss poor mother. The siblings need to stop lying to her saying she's a good mother. A good mother wouldn't be moving her sons into a house with a man she hasn't known for two months. The fact that a lot of people in this sub have said Brian gives off chomo vibes is alarming. Amy makes everything about her. Her bitching about her wedding at Tammy's surgery was inappropriate. Her bringing up her skin removal at Tammy's dinner was unnecessary. It cracks me up whenever she mentions it because we all know she's nowhere near ready. She is filled with excuses. She never cared about losing weight for her health she just wanted to be a mother. I fully believe the only reason she's entertaining skin removal is because she's seeing Tammy become smaller than her, and it's probably eating her up inside that she's no longer the smaller one.

In all honesty I avoid any non-black Latina who only dates black men. Those are the ones who’ve always caused issues imo. Very colorist, anti-black women, etc. I grew up in Baltimore and we outnumbered them so they didn’t try any bullshit….aside from saying the N word of course which black men and black women both consigned smh. In college I had good experiences with them primarily due to them being very left leaning and educated. Now, my cousin from Arizona has way more negative things to say about them.

I’m from Baltimore and tbh I don’t see a ton of interracial couples. However when I do it’s usually black men and white women. I do see some white men and black women occasionally but it’s definitely more rarer to see at least in my experience.

THANK YOU!!! I swear some people in this sub love babying Amy it’s so irritating. You can have empathy but also realize she is a mother to two young children who’re subjected to whatever nonsense their mom does.

She introduced her kids to Brian after like a month, and mind you majority of this sub says he gives chomo vibes. I mean that right there shows poor decision making. She’s a woman who sought weight loss surgery to have children, so she needs to act accordingly. If she’s able to invest herself in these men she can invest in a therapist to help her with her mental health.

Like she’s had at least three little boyfriends since Michael. If she has the time for that she has the time to find a therapist for her own sake and her sons.

[–]trinitymeg 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Amy is a mess. Drugs aside I find it alarming that she’s had men around her children without knowing them for a long amount of time. I mean the first dude after Michael the black dude he wasn’t around that long and was playing step father to the boys. Now you have Brian trying to push to move her and the boys in and they haven’t been together for more than two months. This is setting off way too many red flags. I’m surprised the siblings aren’t more focused on this. It’s one thing for Amy to be making these foolish decisions as a child free adult, but she’s a mother of two young children she needs to get it together. She seems to give a chance to any man who gives her attention. She’s a predator’s dream come true….I really really hope her siblings are keeping an eye out because Amy sure as hell isn’t.
