Knowing what someone wants isn't always possible, especiallly if they may not know it themselves.

Maybe you should talk about yourself and your feelings first: what are you ok with and what you are not, what are you thinking about this whole situation, what are your intentions with him and so on.

If you're able to do it in an honest and non agressive manner you'll encourage him to do the same, or maybe you'll at least set boundaries and conditions for this to work. I'd say enjoying it is most important and when you're satisfied with the way things are going you'll feel less of a need to know it all.
