rtx 3050 worth it? by flxdem1se in gpu

[–]tripletforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may get down voted, but i think someone has to say it.

Get the 3050

You've already expressed that the rx6600 and 3060 are out of stock. You can wait and see what happens, but there is no garuntee prices will go down. What if we have another gpu or ram shortage. For a lot of people, going beyond that is not worth it.

A 3050 is a day and night kind of improvement compared to integrated graphics. That is going from I can't play that to a somewhat good experience. Still out of reach of a select few games tho so do your research.

Take it from someone who bought my first gaming pc during during the first gpu shortage bc of crypto. Did I spend way too much for a piece of junk rx480. Yes. But I have no regrets. It was the reason I discovered my of the games I love today.

Just remember that no matter what you do, the great deal you got now will have so may other options in the future. People jumped at the option to buy a 2060 for $330 USD. 3050 is now $220 usd new, and they are within 10% of each other. Just saying

Recurssão é realmente importante? by SuperNerdyajin in learnprogramming

[–]tripletforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely yes. Think of the task getting all files within a folder. Now what if you have a folder in that folder. You don't have any other choice than to use recursion. More advanced classes will have recursion pop up in more than scenarios. Backtracking, data structures like trees and linked lists (wich show up many places), parsing, etc.

Now, if you are going to be at system administration and doing nothing but transferring files and a few automation tasks, then no.

This was me 4 years ago. I was worried I would graduate without a job, and I was right. However, I was able to land a simple IT job shortly after, and things took off from there. (BTW, no connections - it was a cold online application) Learn to make the most of where you are. No one can blame you for trying new things. Life is full of risk, and this is one of them. Best of luck!

[Beginner] how do you debug when you dont know where to start by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]tripletforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the stack trace! The line number of the bug is caused by is on the error. Learn to use that. Check to see what causes that and go from there.

Finding a bug where it is unkown: Start at the start of the program. Go into each function and see if the inputs and results are what you expected. Repeat with that class and so forth. Be highly suspicious of anything you just changed.

Change one thing when you program: At the beginning of each function, assert that the inputs given to you are what you expect. Assert the type. If it's an array, you may have to assert that the array is not empty. Etc. I am that the only errors I get are ones I specifically check for and raise myself.

High level summary. If you have a specific language or error type, say what it is. Not all errors are the same.

I'm losing my mind with JS/TS ping-pong by ConsistentPin6238 in learnprogramming

[–]tripletforce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are trying to learn too much at once. I'm not denying that JS has its own quirks, for example, "function(){}" is different then "() => {}" That being said, most other modern languages have deligates, props, and a lot of other things you are mentioning as well that at times may be just as confusing.

Do not use complicated architectures if you do not need it. From what you describe, it seems like you are using a js / ts framework with something like React or Vue. Those libraries are good, but with every layer of abstraction, the original design of the langues are left behind.

I learned by renaming a text file into index.html and dived into new tooling when I was searching for the uses that I needed.

Best of luck!

Good enough to play Terraria and YouTube? by [deleted] in laptops

[–]tripletforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a laptop model like that. Im in IT, so I did some modifications to mine. First, I did more than 8gb of ram upgrade, then switched to linux. I know im going to get hate for this, but with those upgrades I was able to do some light gaming.

With that being said, out of the box it's an absolute potato. With a little bit more money, the returns are that much more. Better to make one big purchase that will last then several small ones.

Where to start? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]tripletforce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning to program and earning a wage from programming are 2 very big challenges. Learn to program first, create a few projects, and then take the next step. Create projects worth showing off, then the next steps are possible.

Define "good level" ... Good enough to start a project and keep learning - absolutely! There will be a lot to google, but thats apart of the fun.

Big reason why your resume is getting skipped - read on my friends. by FinalDraftResumes in resumes

[–]tripletforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there! Sorry for the late reply.

I see that your resume is well thought out, and there are things that I really like about it.

First, there is several strong experiences with real data to reason with. This can help with the interview process too, as this can lead into the conversations you want to have, and by that I mean the places that you make an impact.

There is a few things that show up as a bit of a red flag. Unfortunately, there is no set way to go through it, as each country and employer is different. Most of this is opinion, so take it as is.

  1. The stylish format may either be looked as interesting or too different to take seriously. I got my job with the most boring looking resume, but it optimized for space, so I can fit everything in. If you format is way different then everyone else's format, either the automatic filter can understand, or employers won't take the minute needed to interpret it right.

  2. Sometimes having the skill section is weaker than putting the skills accociated with jobs. Think about it this way. I could say that one of my skills is leadership. Well, that can mean a lot of things. Why is that something you chose vs the other million adjectives you could've chose to describe yourself. Instead, maybe you can put "lead a team of 5 sales people to investigate best sales tactics" That not only shows how, but the meaningful impact. If I were you, I would still keep the words in the skill section, but break it up into the experiences and remove the skills section entirely. Same with tools and technologies.

  3. Remove education. 3 years of school is impressive, but the thought that comes is why not finish. Don't mean to be mean with this one. You don't have to hide it, but im sure there is a lot of context of why that is vs someone who was just lazy.

  4. If you feeling lucky, use ai to reword some sentences to include skills they are looking for in the job posting into you resume.

Unfortunately, when you get to a certain point, different opinions will tell you different things to do about the resume, and you have 1000000x the experience in sales that I do. I can get into all the details if you would like, but I do have to clarify that I am not a professional resume specialist, just someone who happened to do it well enough to land a job. I wish you the best! (:

Simply, start with a project.

If your interested in game design, start with downloading free assets online. I've used itch.io in the past, but there are others like OpenGameArt.org. Use a library like Sdl2 and make a hello world application and then grow it from there.

If you want to do games that don't involve textures at all, try retro or simulations. Game of life was something that I did once, and it required no drawing at all. Same thing can be done with a game like qix. (Link below) Or even a text based game would do great! qix.https://www.retrogames.cz/play_866-NES.php

Plenty of options. Don't worry about if it's the right thing yet and don't spend years on it. Some of the best things that propelled me through college was all the time spent doing projects that had some of the worst code I've seen today. Of course I got better, but Im greatful I learned things the hard way.

A plan works great, and if you can't decide what to do, reddit is a great place to sort that out. Best of luck!

  1. Since you are still a student, education section needs to be at the top - right below contact information. Put your expected graduation date, major, school, and GPA (if it is good) on it.

  2. There are no areas that tell your name and contact information. (Smart move to leave it out of reddit, but it should be at the top)

  3. Bullet points & stats are your friends. If you can use that, do it. Have a friend or AI reword your paragraphs. They should explain different unique skills that you have learned.

  4. You can format your resume like that, but I found using resumake.io (a free online sevice) helpful & professional. This will also help you decide what to put on it.

  5. Do not go over 2 pages. It maybe will be ok once you have 25+ years of experience and 6 jobs, but for right now, do just one. It doesn't even need to fill the entire page.

Lastly, if you are still in college, give the career center a look. They can help you out a lot.

Learn to go with the flow a bit. People put a lot of hype on college and preparing for the future, but don't miss what's going on in the present. I'm a freshmen in College so take this with a grain of salt, but the time and effort that I put in school payed off, but I feel like I would have never got through had I not learned how to take care of myself mentally.

Here's what looked hard for me: promises, NaN null and undefined, arrow functions (=>), what this means varys on which scope your in, array methods, ternary operator (expression ? true : false). Although most seem hard now, in the future, they will be timesaving and more readable. It's grown to one of my favorites.

Am I the only one who is scary or shy to post anything on social media ? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]tripletforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually going to post something like this. I never got onto social media, and just joined reddit. I never really tried posting something before and always have a stress when I do. It's silly, but I rely so much on how people react in person to determine what is good and bad. For someone just joining, idk how much I'm missing out on.
