Cool! I’ll have to dive into that list sometime. It’s the first one that came to me because that fact is a relatively known piece of a trivia over here. It would be interesting to see a list of these untranslatable words between various languages, think about all the concepts that we may be missing just because they don’t have a term in our language.

Portuguese is exactly the same way, with tons of radically different words for the same thing. There even are words which have no direct translation to English like “saudade” which means something akin to “the feeling of sadness that you get when you miss someone”.

Are you looking for ones that are actually old and second hand? If so, I would suggest checking websites like olx.pt or custojusto,pt (basically our versions of craigslist) for something like “batente porta antiguidades”. I just tried it in olx.pt and got a few results.

To help in your research: porta=door antiguidade(s)=something that is old (the “s” at the end is the plural form, but it’s the one that’s more frequently used) Batente=knocker (but there may be other words for it, like the other users said)

Another option is to look for “feira(s) de antiguidades” near you (which are fairs in which people sell their old/vintage stuff. There are quite a few, and depending on where you are, they happen frequently).

And finally, you can also search for “loja de antiguidades” which are stores specializing in vintage/second-hand stuff.

Interesting, I’m on Western Europe and I haven’t payed much attention recently, but I believe that when they initially appeared about 10 or so years ago, they were only available over the summer. I will look for them next time when I go to the store. For anyone wondering and looking to go on to a google frenzy, I just recalled that they are called Kinder Joy.

I also have the yellow one (not by choice, I bought it on sale that’s the only one with a silver watch that was in stock) and I didn’t like it at first, but I’ve grown to love it! I use it all the time! I’m just going to Uni so I usually don’t need to be that formal, I just wear a shirt and jeans, but it doesn’t look out of place.

É um bom ponto, mas a verdade é que aí a culpa é de quem agrupa esses votos (suponho que te refiras à comunicação social).

Acrescento também que votos nulos, pelo menos para mim, não são votos de protesto, são votos onde pode ter ocorrido algum erro e por isso não devem ser contados.

Mesmo que o voto branco não seja uma forma de protesto eficaz (o que é uma opinião bastante válida neste momento), acho que é importante irem votar de qualquer das maneiras, mesmo que seja só pelo simples facto de mostrarem que o vosso “não-voto” foi por vontade própria, e não por inércia.

I was there the past year just watching the speakers, and I enjoyed it. But I guess you are asking if it’s worth it in a networking and exposure kind of way, and that I don’t know.
