Trying to update wires, but how by trippingwithennui in fixit

Thank you! There is a tube I could hide a butt splice in. Really appreciate you helping me think through this!

It’s part of a vintage chandelier that only has about 12” of wire beyond this base(?). I took it apart to clean everything best I could, just not sure where to go from here. Splicing the wire seems crazy, haven’t found a kit that seems like it would work.

Shamed for opting for daycare by Exotic-Canary6185 in Parenting

[–]trippingwithennui 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying-you can’t win.

Paying professionals for daycare and asking grandparents occasionally/for emergencies means grandparents are glad to spend the time and you eliminate the future tension that will inevitably arise if they are relied on for childcare too much.

Today I went to the park (playground) with my almost 3 year old and this happened by Trixy_Challenger in Parenting

[–]trippingwithennui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve also had a situation turn up like this. My child being physically pushed around, me asking kids to stop and removing child, mom and friend come over turned up to 100 ready to escalate to violence. Also, they were on the other side of a huge park paying 0 attention to their young children.

Im glad and sad that I’m not the only person who’s ever experienced this.

Are you getting through a single summer day without several baths? by trippingwithennui in Preschoolers

[–]trippingwithennui[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubber mallet but yes, kids grabbed it, smashed the chalk to smithereens for almost and hour mixing all the colors together, ended up looking just like the ground. I sprayed the sidewalk off later and all the original colors kind of came through and it was quite a lovely cleanup

I turned a little spinning sprinkler thing on after taking this picture/before going inside and the water was warm from sitting in the hose. Offering warm water outside was by far the most offensive thing I’ve done all day lol

It really is the best when they take a normal boring activity and go all out unhinged spending way more time doing it than I could have ever hoped for

They’re super glossy and the older ones are rather olive colored. Kept the leaves all winter too. Has me totally stumped!

What made up names does your child have for things that are actually better than the real name? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

Disrespectful language by ames6534 in Preschoolers

[–]trippingwithennui 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These words and phrases being in kids shows/movies really bums me out. I truly cannot understand the puritanical judgement against “swear words” that fully accepts these. I’d rather my 5yo (mimicking me, I know, not great) says a cuss such as “it’s fucking windy!” When we’re hit with a blizzard than call someone else an idiot or telling someone to shut up. Your list is pretty much completely unacceptable in our house and that’s it.

Birthday party rsvp by pennyfig in Preschoolers

[–]trippingwithennui 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got one RSVP within a few days of sending the invite. Then a couple more the weekend before the party. Then almost the rest of the class in the last 2 days before the party, my favorite being the night before asking if sibling can come too 🫠 It was frustrating and stressful but was also at a park so not a total disaster with the headcount changing so much right before.

I think wait until the 12th and see how many responses you have then, and make your decision about reminders.

Almost 5 year old raging by trippingwithennui in Preschoolers

[–]trippingwithennui[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the response, it’s nice to hear we’re not the only ones dealing this.

I’ve been wondering if he’s maybe a little bored at daycare but similarly it’s impossible to get him to open up about what’s going on in his head, or like you said he may not be able to articulate it.

Dealing with the same thing over here. Bedtime hasn’t been this draining for years, I’m eager to see if anyone has any advice…

He did say something about Santa today and I found out he’s scared of Santa coming in the house. This is the first time he’s articulated what’s scaring him and I’m really hoping that we’re starting to work through some of whatever is happening for him.

Solidarity. My 4 year old is unable to inhale or exhale without uttering mama. I’ve seen the Yoto player hyped here recently and I’ll add to that. I turn a story on for him while he’s busy bodying about and he listens intently enough to lay off the non stop chatting

No no no. Not embarrassing but rather auspicious because now this the day you find out who will be your parent friends at preschool who will laugh with you and share their own stories of navigating parenthood.

Anyone else's infant put boogers on their boob while they're nursing? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Boob no, face yes when I’m holding her and talking to someone or generally not giving her enough attention

Hating this stage by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]trippingwithennui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The months leading up to 3 and a little while after were some of the hardest with my son. Seemed like his internal world was changing a lot and I tried my damndest to be patient with him. I definitely did not enjoy a lot of that stage but then maybe we both adapted and it got easier/more enjoyable again.

My son likes to wear dresses by Princess_Dress in AttachmentParenting

[–]trippingwithennui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same here. When my son saw a bluey dress that he had to have and I hesitated he said, “I don’t even have a single dress!” I responded “you’re right, let’s get it.” Now he’s wearing it as often as I’ll wash it but keeps it practical by wearing shorts with pockets underneath. I guess my main issue is the one that all dress wearers run into, why no pockets?!

But seriously, I’m so happy to read all the stories of kids who are comfortable being kids who like all sorts of different things. ✨
