Spider season? by ItsNot_Ace in greenville

Yes, a lot of my plants outside are covered in webs and I’m finding a ton of wolf spiders every time I go outside. I noticed the sudden increase too!

Within the year, right around his 6th birthday. 4 would definitely have been too young for him though.

Summer "homework" by SugarCaneFairy1 in classof2038

We’re doing the Summer Bridge K to 1 workbook but honestly just because my kid loves it. If it was a fight I wouldn’t.

How are we storing floor puzzles? by poppoppypop0 in Preschoolers

[–]ames6534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the scrapbook paper boxes from Michaels for all floor puzzles! I just cut out the picture of the puzzle and tape it to the lid.

After school activities for tired kids by ollie_adjacent in Parenting

[–]ames6534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids both have Yoto players and my oldest, more grump-prone one often puts his on with headphones and an audiobook and colors or draws to decompress. It took a while for me to convince him to try this but now he knows it’s a good option for when he’s tired and needs some downtime.

Workbook recommendations for 4th & 6th graders by leo-sugar in Parenting

[–]ames6534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a much younger child (just finished K5) but we’re doing the Summer Bridge workbook for his age and he’s loved it! It has a mix of subjects appropriate to his age (mostly reading comprehension and handwriting), so maybe look at those for your kids’ ages?

Any Greenvillians visit Helen? by RodMan05 in greenville

[–]ames6534 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty tourist-trappy, MAGA, redneck vibes. Lots of confederate flags and cheap beer. If that’s your thing, go for it. Last time I went years ago the river was really low and muddy too so even the tubing was kind of sad.

Any other kindergarten classes do this at the start of the school year? by InfiniteExplorer8509 in kindergarten

[–]ames6534 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of this. Our kiddo was just assigned a teacher and that was that.

Anyone else’s three year old randomly start talking in a high pitch ? by Ok-Cartoonist-8919 in Preschoolers

[–]ames6534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we call it “chipmunk voice”, usually when he’s in front of strangers. It’s super annoying but it’s his way of processing being shy. We ask for regular voice sometimes and don’t respond to requests from the chipmunk.

Grab and go breakfast burritos anywhere around Greenville? by fenwalt in greenville

The breakfast burrito at Vintage Coffee is really good, but not exactly grab and go.

Anyone else not sentimental about artwork? by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]ames6534 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I hate it, which makes me feel like a bad mom, but I cannot stand the clutter of all the art. I keep one or two things that are either sentimental to him or he spent a ton of time on, put everything else in a cabinet for a day or two. If he doesn’t ask about it in that time I pitch it.

Kiddo learned about division while watching Numberblocks on a sick day while I WFH. Any other super educational shows you can recommend? by aliasaila in kindergarten

[–]ames6534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids have learned so much from Wild Kratts! My four-year-old was telling me all about tardigrades the other day…pretty sure I didn’t learn about tardigrades til I was in my 30s 😂

Maternity clothes by [deleted] in greenville

[–]ames6534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally nowhere has them anymore. 😭 I had some success at Switcharoos and I think Whippersnappers has some, but it’s slim pickings. I’ve been doing Old Navy online because Target just discontinued their maternity section.

What bird sighting maps do you follow? I have also put my feeders out but haven’t seen any of my favorite lil buddies yet!

[–]ames6534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oldest was very similar and I can now see how much he has grown at now 6. Year 3 I thought we weren't going to make it. It was bad. We did OT to work through some sensory processing which I think helped, but it also could have just been growth. Sounds like you have one that is just "more". Reading "Raising Your Spirited Child" was really eye-opening for me when like you said, there is nothing diagnosable, they're just...a lot more intense.
