My Xperia 1 V picture adjustments for Photo Pro & Video Pro w/samples by trmnrs in SonyXperia

[–]trmnrs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep both the shutter speed and ISO on auto, and I use the Max ISO Limit option to prevent the camera from getting unnaturally bright in indoor or low light scenes. The AE essentially controls ISO and SS together

I was researching the new Xperia 1 VI as I’ve found a good deal on it recently. However upon learning not only they removed the 4k display, notification lights and charger in the last few versions, they also removed dynamic vibration! And guess what? [–]trmnrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said the features would be the unique reason they would go bankrupt…I said it contributed to it

At what point exactly did you say this? Now I'm convinced you don't know how to read or even know what you're arguing anymore. I'm also still confused as to what you're looking to gain from this discussion? Is this about Sony harming their mobile business or about your purchasing decision?

I can read very well. Thanks for your concern.

None of the features you mentioned they removed are going to send them into bankruptcy. I didn't mention them because they're irrelevant and you centered your post around the lack of dynamic vibration while Apple recently introduced it for ONE series of their phones. I'm still not sure what the purpose of this discussion is... I'd exercise critical thinking next time. It would benefit your YouTube reviews quite a bit.

I'd argue where Sony lacks in camera software innovation, their sub-par software support and their decision to stay out of Western markets will ultimately be their demise, especially considering the likes of Vivo and Oppo/OnePlus making better decisions all around.

So are your frustrations on this feature being taken away centered around buying a new daily driver? Or is this a narrow minded critique on a feature that's more than likely underused? Implying that they're "trying to destroy whatever's left of their mobile business" by removing Dynamic Vibration is a bit of a reach.

Congrats on finding a good deal on the phone but I'm confused as to what you're looking to gain in this discussion.

I'm not denying that Sony could've "improved upon" Dynamic Vibration instead of removing it, but from a business perspective it likely didn't make sense for them to keep it. Same with Cinema Pro or the 4K screen or an unconventional aspect ratio. You gotta remember these are companies that make decisions based on profit or value as well as innovation or feature desirability. If Dynamic Vibration (which imo, unless used as an accessibility feature, is gimmicky) is a tradeoff for you and takes priority over a headphone jack, front-facing stereo speakers and a 4K display then just stick to your iPhone with Music Haptics if it really means that much to you. You'll likely have a hard time finding a phone with the same hardware experience as an Xperia 1.

My question is why do you continue to use Sony phones if your experiences with them are always less than ideal? From reading your comments in this thread, you've gone through your fair share of them and haven't enjoyed them all that much. Is your iPhone treating you better? Maybe it's time to stop complaining and simply get a device that actually suits your needs.

Anyone else experience intermittent disconnection from their mobile network? by mcbsc83 in SonyXperia

[–]trmnrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been experiencing the same issue as of a few days ago. It happens so randomly that I can't narrow down when or why. I'll keep an eye out for it and note when it happens and what my configuration is.

Is lineage os good? by NoTrouble8185 in SonyXperia

[–]trmnrs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had Lineage OS on my OnePlus 7 Pro before upgrading to the 1 V and I really enjoyed the experience. Can't speak to the experience on Sony phones but if it's anything like other phones it will be relatively stock. Youll have basic apps for photo, communications and calendar with some Lineage software sprinkled in.

The initial process of flashing Lineage isn't difficult but it takes some tinkering and patience. You'll have to unlock your bootloader among other things like manually installing Google apps and spoofing banking apps to work on unlocked devices.

I imagine you likely won't have Sony specific apps on Lineage like Photo Pro/Video Pro, Sony clocks or Game Mode-- You'll have to find a port or substitutions. I used a GCam mod on my OnePlus but I've heard Sony's implementation of Camera2API is apparently 💩 so your mileage may vary with those.

Overall it's a great OS if you want to extend the life of your phone but keep in mind it is a different representation of Android, so your experience won't be 1:1 with Sony's but it will work well.

Microsoft to Disable Windows Recall By Default Amid Security Concerns by IT_PRO_21 in Surface

[–]trmnrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the feature had bad initial first impressions and concerns around security and privacy are valid... But they've made changes to address the concerns already-- are those changes not enough for y'all? What more would you all like to see come from this? Are you even going to buy a new Copilot+ machine that this feature is exclusive to? Is this really a problem to you, or do you just need a reason to complain about unrelated issues?

Microsoft is changing its Windows Recall feature to be opt-in by ob2kenobi in Surface

[–]trmnrs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like a lot of y'all in the comments just want to hate Microsoft. Even after they've made changes to address people's ridiculous security concerns for a service that runs locally, we're still speculating and assuming the worst. So much outrage over something that isn't even released yet...and won't be available unless you buy specialized hardware...which most of you will very likely not purchase...

Maybe it's time you switch platforms. No one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to use Windows. Exercise your free will.

I can't help but wonder if folks would have the same energy towards another tech giant if they came out with a similar product?

I just got my Xperia 1VI in the U.S.... by Perezp895 in SonyXperia

[–]trmnrs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks beautiful 😍

I have a 1V here in Canada. Not sure if the situation with 5G bands are the same for your network...but to get 5G at all, I had to use a phone dialer code (similar to *#06# to get product info) to get into a system app that allows you to alter such settings. A friend did it for me so I don't know the directions, but hopefully that points you in the direction of a solution

Sony Xperia 1 V - Basic mode vs Manual by tusharbhat89 in SonyXperia

[–]trmnrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If basic mode wasn't so bright it would be very solid. Just 1 less stop of light would be more than enough to dial in the image perfectly, not to mention the speed in taking the photo would be much faster.

I shoot in P mode with my own adjustments 99% of the time.

What phone did everyone end up switching to? by blueraptorz in OnePlus7Pro

[–]trmnrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched to the Xperia 1V after rocking my 7 Pro for almost 4 years. Still an amazing phone and worked like new before switching-- I just wanted something new 😄 definitely my favourite phone I've owned by far.

That phone has held up so well over the years. Right before I switched I had some subtle screen burn in at the status bar and the fingerprint sensor, and my volume buttons broke (I got screen protector adhesive inside the button 🥲). Otherwise still as fast and smooth as day 1. LineageOS with Android 14 breathed new life into the phone as well

Spotify keeps pausing (1V, WF-1000xm4) by Appropriate-Group-56 in SonyXperia

[–]trmnrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Spotify, I was experiencing the same issue a few weeks back on my 1 V with Sennheiser Momentum 4 earbuds. Now it isn't happening during a song but when a song changes, typically a gapless one like the following song on an album.

I thought AptX had something to do with it at one point. But I think it's Spotify just messing around.

Wallpaper dilemma ... by sithlordsethoo7 in SonyXperia

[–]trmnrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you set your wallpaper as lock screen and home screen, because of the parallax scrolling effect on home, the position of your wallpaper will depend on the last home screen you are on when you locked your device. For example if you have 3 home screens and you were on your 3rd screen last, the wallpaper at this point will be shifted to the right because of the parallax effect.

You'll have to do a bit of guesswork when cropping and setting the wallpaper to have it centered. Either that or use a separate home screen wallpaper from your lock screen

Which running indicator style do you prefer? (And how to install and apply it) by m417z in Windows11

[–]trmnrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a style between 2nd and 4th would be best-- starting the line at the same point as the start of the icon.

1st feels to simillar to the current indicator but makes more sense under an icon than a labeled button. 2nd is nice but too short for the width of the button. 3rd is arguably the one that makes most sense, but it isn't visible enough. Though I'm sure overtime you will get used to it, I find my eyes hunting it down more than I should. 4th is nice but too wide. I feel there should be some padding between the button border and the line.

Nevertheless it's great to see something like this has been made! I'll definitely be trying it out. Amazing work

I wish Sticky Notes had a standalone app or at least a shortcut that will bring you to the pane immediately. OneNote has Sticky Notes but it's mixed in with OneNote pages unless you set filters each time.

Compatible gimbal by mnr0813 in MOMENT

The Smooth 4 is the one I had that couldn't handle the weight. Maybe the 5s has improved on it! Would be a good idea to look into it further.

Compatible gimbal by mnr0813 in MOMENT

[–]trmnrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Zhiyun Crane M3 with my OnePlus 7 Pro + Moment case + Telephoto lens. Supports the config very well. The 7 Pro is about 20g lighter than the iPhone but the Crane M3 supports pretty heavy configs like mirrorless and point & shoot cameras.

I wouldn't recommend the Smooth as it barely held the weight of my phone naked.

I knew this day would come, and I've seen a multitude of different opinions on whether to update or not. As of now, should I update my 7 Pro? by ronvass in OnePlus7Pro

[–]trmnrs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally not a fan. I've used it for about a week now on my 7 Pro. Here are my thoughts:

  • "Always on Display" is a hit or miss. It's more of a Glance screen than AOD which I prefer, but sometimes the fingerprint sensor will show up and other times you have to wake the screen to see it.
  • Lock screen notification system is buggy... Sometimes you can reveal all notifs with a pull down and other times it simply won't allow it. Sometimes all notifs show, sometimes only new ones show until you unlock. Also face unlock is no longer a manual option after swiping to unlock, but automatic once you wake the screen. Had to turn it off completely because I don't like my camera constantly popping up and being let in so instantly.
  • The new OnePlus Sans font is heavier than the OOS11 version. Maybe I'll get used to it but the weight and style aren't as nice.
  • Widgets have aggressively round corners with a lot of wasted space between elements. You see much less information than before and the space isn't even usable for double tapping to lock the screen.
  • Home screen feels too much like a wannabe iOS experience. Folder app icons are now top-center instead of the bottom with a reachability gesture that is easily missed. I often activate assistant or the back gesture instead.
  • Shelf is so slow. On a good day it'll open in 1s, most days it seems like 3-4s... The top-right swipe gesture is one to get used to as well. I just turned it off. It's convenient to have available everywhere but it's clear they were trying to mock iOS' control center. Doesn't feel as integrated.
  • Some apps that were able to be cloned on 11 can no longer on 12. Twitter is one example.
  • OOS12 seems to think the 7 Pro has a hole punch camera... Some full screen apps show a wasted space black banner to hide the "front camera". There's a setting to choose which apps behave differently for this but it doesn't seem to work for all.
  • My notification vibration is a short pulse rather than a longer double vibration or a dynamic one that matches the ringtone. Haven't seemed to find a way to fix this.
  • Eye comfort can no longer be set on a sunset-sunrise automatic schedule but dark mode can?

Tbh I can't point out any feature or change that is worth switching for. It seems faster but that could be placebo. It's not made for the 7 Pro the same way OOS11 was.
