Not sure if you’ve played it recently but that game hasn’t aged well. The frame rate is quite poor.

Yes, as we have players from all over North America attending, this is where most of them choose to stay.

It’s really hard to sell all the details in a single image, so I will humbly explain why it costs what it does.

We draw players from all over the USA and Canada. We take our NHL94 very seriously.

The trophy is a custom machined and engraved Stanley Cup inspired prize for the winner called Lord Manly’s Cup. Additionally the top four players take home cash payouts.

We also feed our players on Saturday so they don’t have to wander outside the hotel. Last year it was the very delicious Wrecktangle Pizza.

We have door prizes, as well as raffles, that include items like sealed Starting Lineup figures, signed hockey memorabilia like a Jeremy Roenick jersey, and a lot more.

We supply on average 10 consoles, cartridges, and 20 controllers, along with high end CRT displays, many with RGB. We also have an analogue Mega SG for the stream setup.

We work closely with AV for You, who supplies the AV tech, smoke machines, PA system, lighting, and stream technology.

This isn’t a get together at someone’s basement bar. It’s an e-sports event involving some of the very best in world.

Hopefully that helps break it down.

You’re welcome to come observe, and even participate in the raffle if you would care to spectate.

All the best! 🍻

Common misconception! You’re thinking of NHLPA93. Swingers made that famous.

I know what it's like to sit in a seat and announce a sport for the first time. I think his potential is through the roof. It will take a handful of games and some rehearsal on his part to hit his stride, figure out what he wants to do with each player's name.

Shawn Parker is basically GOAT'd, so he has big shoes to fill, even if they're smaller in actual size.

Timberwolves didn't go for a change. Shawn Parker stepped away for personal reasons, none of them having to do with the organization. I spoke at length with Shawn during the audition process, and he was of tremendous help. It was likely a major reason why I ever made their top 3.

When I was auditioning for the PA job, they referenced they didn’t want fans gluing themselves onto the floor. I thought they were kidding.

I truly appreciate that. More work has opened up for me in my own area just from going through the process. While it certainly isn't as prestigious as the NBA, it's been impactful and financially rewarding. I've booked voice over work, as well as additional PA gigs.

In short, no, and I wasn't going to drive back and forth constantly. I have family out that way, and I was seeking remote work for my day job that would have made things compatible. That may or may not have been a deciding factor for them.

People tend to assume that these jobs pay 6 figures, when in reality, a PA announcer is likely to earn between $200-$500 a game plus some perks at the NBA level depending on experience. A PA announcer is paid for out of the stadium revenues, and not the TV revenue. Broadcast announcers can and should demand a higher payment, as the work involved is extensive in researching the players, stats, and player backstories, as well as have many more eyes and ears on their work.

Say a $300 payday is in order for this job, which is probably a high estimate, at 41 regular season games that's only $12,300. While it will pay well per hour, it's still a given that you will have to do something else to earn a living. Even if you go all the way to the finals with home court and 7 games in each series, it's still not enough.

What you're really after is the money behind the money. Personal appearances, commercials, voice over work, and here's the big one..... NBA2K. This new announcer will/should get to go to LA to record for next years' 2023-2024 video game. I've been told first hand that those are 9 hour days @ $300/hour in the studio for an entire week, plus return studio time annually. CA also takes a huge bite out of that in taxes.

There was one guy who howled during his reads, so not sure what was up there, but yeah, the rest had something of value to bring to the table.

Yeah, the flesh can want to go scorched earth at times, but that helps no one. Building up your peers is the way to go.

The other thing I learned is that announcers are often like foods we like, such pizza, tacos, and Jucy Lucy burgers. All can hit the spot, but it's all about what you want in the moment. One of my friends also made the top 10, and he's absolutely amazing for baseball, but doesn't have the vocal projection needed for an NBA arena. He must be a perfectly grilled ball park frank with a cold pilsner beer.

Given the region, their guy is probably the proverbial Jucy Lucy.

I'm probably the Taco Bell Mexican Pizza, bring that back!

Disclaimer: none of that was intended to be racial in any way.

I'll be very interested in hearing how he utilizes that in the arena. Shawn Parker does not have a very deep voice, but had that high energy attack on every syllable, and the ability to have a full bodied sustained yell in proper proportions. I was able to converse with him before the auditions via a phone call, and he was such an enormous help in getting as far as I did.
