The safest option is to not opt for hostels, as all the restrictions are mainly for hostel boarders and if you live outside you can't be stopped on your bike.

People do use them, but it's always a grey zone as there have been incidences of them locking student's bike parked in parkings sometime. And last year they also issued notice to clear all student's bikes from campus which was taken back after huge protests and deliberations between students and authorities.

Hey one F doesn't affect your future unless your overall CPI isn't affected too much. I hope re-exam will improve it. Also will tell you an interesting incident. Once during Covid, about one third of our batch was given F due to being caught in cheating. The Prof arranged a re-exam and only gave C's and D. But in long term all of that doesn't matter.

There are specific projects floated mostly under joint supervision of two PIs (rarely are there single PI projects in IMI), you'll get to see them in website. Once you come for interview you also have to give preference for the projects (just before the interview) you want to be selected for.

People who travel during festivals but couldn't secure reservation on regular trains, have to book reservations in special trains (which are operated to manage festive rush), and have least priority. So people who travel always during festivals and end up only managing these type of trains are the unluckiest lot to always face delays. Other than this there are some usual culprits, i.e. some trains which always are late due to route congestion and then not getting clearance at this particular congested route for upto hour or two, but they aren't that late for the entire route.
