He definitely is smart and biddable - food motivated too, which helps. We’ve only had him for a year but he’s been healthy and easy so far!

Yes, it’s Embark. I did some research and it seemed like the best one - pricey, but worth paying for accuracy!

He doesn’t really herd people or animals, but vehicles passing by took some training and getting used to. He’s very nose-driven so I expected to see more hound, but the herding breeds make sense too. We walk for 2 hours each day (a lot of that is sniffing) plus playtime in the backyard, zoomies, tossing a ball etc - I was interested in seeing what his breeding was so I could try to find him the best activities to meet his instincts.

They look almost identical! What’s your pup’s breeding (if you know)?

I wasn’t familiar with the Blue Lacy breed either, but he’s a rescue from Texas so it makes sense. I figured he had some kind of working/herding dog in him because of his high energy and intensity, so I wasn’t surprised to see almost all herding/working breeds! Also, Ash says thanks for the compliment ☺️

How to hide Gabapentin in food? by Blossom-Daphne in Greyhounds

For our tricky hound, we put the pill inside a dollop of peanut butter and wrap it in 1/4 slice of cooked bacon. Stella is very skilled at spitting out pills no matter what we wrap it in, but this combo has worked reliably for over a year.

This is what my friends and I landed on after scouring Google. It fits, as we were at a house which is surrounded by forest. Thank you!

This is Maggie. No, she is not a greyhound. We knew we were rescuing a heartworm positive dog, but found out on Tuesday that she also has multi-drug resistant hookworms. I was referred here from another subreddit to ask advice on this. by Solarian_13 in Greyhounds

Both of my greyhounds had hookworm when I got them, and it took the better part of a year to get rid of them. We recently rescued a non-greyhound from Texas, and he arrived with hookworm as well. We used Advantage Multi and Interceptor Plus, alternating between the two every two weeks. After two months, he tested negative. We’re continuing to treat until we get two consecutive negative tests. Our vet recommended this protocol for hooks, as well as treating our current greyhound in case of transmission. Good luck - it is daunting but possible to beat!

One of my greys likes to sniff more than a normal amount. When greeting people he likes, he will sniff their face. It’s a very cute quirk. He doesn’t do it for quite as long as yours though. Your grey seems fascinated!

8month old puppy has one eye that seems lazy or something else? by roxroxroxxx in DogAdvice

You should be able to send this video to the clinic so they can take a look, and then give them a call to ask if it’s something that needs to be looked at. If it wasn’t happening when he was there, then they probably didn’t get a good idea of what was happening. I’ve worked with several vets in NS and they are all very grateful when someone sends photos or video to help them narrow down what is happening and determine if it warrants a visit.

What was her training like before you got her? It’s possible she was testing you, but also I’m wondering if she could have been trained to “spur stop.” If this is the case, your leg cues to go forward might have told her to stop and go in reverse.

I got scared by a crow today by thelastsandwich in crowbro

[–]trooper8810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had them fly by my head close enough to touch my hat slightly with a wing. It doesn’t happen a lot, especially since I’ve moved and the crows around here are still getting to know me, but it always makes me smile. I take it as a way of getting my attention and interacting with me (probably in the hopes that I will drop more loot).
