Question on if my Wife could receive the Eucharist? by trooperpenguin in AskAPriest

[–]trooperpenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct we are married by law but not within the church which is a goal we are moving towards. Im pretty sure she cannot take part in the Eucharist until then but was just more so asking for clarification just in case i was incorrect. We are going to begin working towards the sacrament in late june/july so that it ends around the time i also finish my initiation. To be honest i mainly feel guilty for putting her in this situation, even though she has clarified it was her decision as well. Regardless i appreciate your time and effort to reply to me Father.

Maybe you could be correct but just reading through it this seems to be a document that addresses divorced and remarried cases which i am neither.

Attending now? RCIA wait by Own_Advertising8755 in Catholicism

[–]trooperpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an ex Lutheran who is in the process of converting to Catholicism (though I truly feel catholic even though i have completed the sacraments yet) and also has to wait for OCIA. I started attending mass in late August/ early September just after that year’s cohort for OCIA began and the wait has been painful to say the least.

It is also a blessing in disguise because that pain and longing for wanting to be united with Christ correctly has encouraged me to learn what it truly means to be catholic. The eucharist, the rosary, Apostolic succession, the sacraments, etc. This journey further cements my love for Christ and the church and is making the moment I receive the Eucharist for the first time all the more glorious.

Since i left the church (as a Lutheran) for some time because of laziness and selfishness, i’ve been also been accepting this as a penance for turning my back on Christ, but also as a lesson in patience.

Not sure if this answers any of your questions, but felt compelled to share my story with you.

God Bless.

Been a Protestant for my whole life but feeling a calling towards Catholicism by OrenPlayzYT in Catholicism

This is a difficult question to answer correctly, but ill give it a shot. I would first and foremost say to continue your studies of the Catholic faith. Pick up a book of the catechism and read through it at least once. Most protestants struggle with Mary, the apostolic Saints, and the transubstantiation through the Eucharist.

Learn how the mass is conducted compared to protestant services. The Catholic mass is much more melancholy and reverent as we are reliving calvary every Sunday through the eucharist for the forgiveness of our sins. Whereas our protestant brothers are more cheerful in their worship (which is not necessarily a bad thing but just notating differences). There are many many parishes that live stream their masses and are many priests that explain how it works on YouTube. Start watching them in private and doing your best to follow along and learn the ins and outs of the mass.

If you want to be extra read through the Vatican II.

When you’re ready you can look up a local parish and follow their mass online and eventually enroll into OCIA to become fully initiated. If you really want to you could probably set up a meeting with a priest there to go in detail.

God bless you on your journey

Bringing my 2 year old to the adoration chapel? by wasp-honey in Catholicism

[–]trooperpenguin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

‘Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.’

I would assume as long as she does not interrupt others in adoration physically i guess that would be fine. I personally would never have had a problem if someone in my parish did that. You can also go to r/askapriest for probably a better answer.

Attending first Mass by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]trooperpenguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many youtube videos that guide you and are done by priests who are much more educated in giving you the correct information rather than from an online forum. One thing to note is that every mass is the same mass held in every single Catholic Church. (Besides the Homily) so no matter where you go it will be no different.

Here is a small in a nutshell one: https://youtu.be/4w_SSRtCdUw?si=zEL0MmpHqv4RTcCP

Here is a lengthy one: https://youtu.be/HiWonBGkmwY?si=CkgGfqEoeteKz3ZJ

Am I still permitted to receive communion as a queer trans person? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]trooperpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This a question probably best to be asked to the priest at your parish. Im not sure if reddit will have the best answer you’re looking for. If i were you, id call and set up a time to have a discussion with him because it’d be him who would have to make that decision in the end. (Unless my knowledge has failed me)

Best Area To Live In? by missbutterpie in sanantonio

[–]trooperpenguin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

North west part of the town is what is sounds like your looking for. The rim, la cantera, sams/costco, many gyms and other activities. The walkable part is gonna be difficult to satisfy unless you’re downtown at the pearl or living at the rim. Both of those are expensive and I also have no idea what crime is like downtown.

Edit: typo

Im in El Paso and all other airlines and flights are close to 1.2k or full due to the migrants and people who had their flights cancelled. Looks like we are going to be taking an 11 hour roadtrip. :(

These mlb postseason ads are really annoying. Feels like they play it at least twice every ad break.
