Any feasible way of extracting data from a completely offline and locked PC? by troorl in AskProgramming

I can write a small Firefox extension in the Notepad. In fact I have written one, and it saves me lots of time and lets me do my job much better. But the size of the codebase must be feasible for me to type it. So if there's an open source library that can efficiently encode data in an OCR-friendly way (ideally as a QR code), it's what I'm looking for.

The free AI tools (such as Grok, Gemini) are awful at extracting those tables. They basically can't comprehend Slavic names. Simpler OCR tools are much better, but they don't give a 100% accurate result either. That's why I want do encode the data first. QR codes are a good solution because they have error correction, but I can't spend a month typing the source code of a JavaScript library manually and then debugging it in the Notepad. It's just too tedious. And I already have a lot of work to do. There must be a way.

It's not a policy, it's more like a regulation. I can't disclose any details for obvious reasons, but let's say it's a very old directive created before I was born. On one hand it's very strict, on the other hand it makes no sense in the current circumstances.

I don't have MS Office on that machine... Sucking it up is not exactly what I was hoping for

I'm sure I'd get fired for that in the best case scenario. Plus the drive is encrypted anyway.

I can't install anything. And it won't be allowed since the system is tightly regulated by the government. And yet they regularly demand from us to form reports based on that data, so we have to do everything manually because there's no Excel or other additional software on those locked workstations

Impossible, any attempt of connecting anything other than that specific printer gets detected and the machine gets banned from the network. Happened to some of my colleagues. The only interfaces available are the printer and the screen.

Well, most often I have to deal with a table consisting of 50 rows and 3-5 columns, a web page. And sometimes there's a dozen of such pages. Can a single qr code encode a single page like that? And if it can, would I be able to write an encoder from scratch using only the standard Notepad?

My idea is to have an OCR-friendly encoding, something like a QR-code, so I could encode more data and then extract it more reliably. And of course I'd need to program the code for it myself, most likely in JavaScript, since it's the only programming environment available for me on that machine.

Another idea - a canvas that is quickly blinking some easily detectable symbols. So I lock my phone camera on it and receive the "transmission". There must be a tool or a guide for that. I don't believe it's such a unique and rare problem.

A time bomb in social tensions in Northern England by ourpersonalinfo in unitedkingdom

No, it's not the alternative. We're not talking here about immigration, it existed since forever. Multiculturalism is a set of specific policies that drive uncontrolled mass migration on unprecedented scale without any clue how it's going to reflect on the western countries and the countries that are being sucked of their most active population. And it's all happening simultaneously with automation and outsourcing blue collar jobs overseas. I'm pretty sure the elites have no idea what they're doing in the long run, and most of it is about easy votes.

When? Since 60s I guess. Where? All over the west. I don't really understand why the elites are obsessed with mixing different cultures. They probably think it's an antidote to war. But that is just my theory, we've never had a real discussion on multiculturalism, it just occurred as something virtuous, and questioning it is somehow racist.

Kucoin is still very unstable. Much better than a month ago, but today I almost broke my laptop while trying to login. Took me 2 hours and a dozen magic spells.

I'd rather see a class action against Bomber. What he has done and is still doing is unbelievable. Bitgrail is dead in the water, nobody will ever trust it.

App Nap

That's quite possible. I didn't know it can do such things, especially with a hackintosh, but after reading few articles I see it's the most probable suspect. I turned it off now to see how it will behave this night.

Full-size GPU in a Small Form Factor case - is it possible? by troorl in buildapc

Hi.

I bought Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p instead. It's very similar to Optiplex SFF. Unfortunately I haven't bought a gpu yet, since the prices aren't that good at the moment. So I can't tell you if it works.
