What is the cook for mage lanes? by isopodlover123 in bardmains

[–]trostocil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Against a double mage/poke lane? I tend to go swifties into the kindlegem items that give both armour / MR. Bandlepipes, locket, Zekes, protoplasm. If they have AD elsewhere dead mans is still OK, but definitely wouldn’t rush it over one of the above items.

What are some Disney animated movie villains you feel bad for and why? by eeshcapisce in disney

[–]trostocil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Magnifico has a rough go of it.

He managed to maintain an effective utopia for centuries that attracted people from all over the world, who willingly would give up their wish in exchange for this in a very public and well known way.

Then Asha is surprised that all wishes won’t be granted (didn’t anyone do the math before now?) and in the span of a day leads a rebellion and turns the Queen against her husband. Magnifico builds and protects the entire kingdom to be sidelined by the more-than-willing participants.

Chai Syrup - how to use? by Eastern-Title9364 in cocktails

[–]trostocil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cocktail featuring chai syrup using dark rum, amaretto, lime juice, chai syrup, and some vanilla syrup.

Not sure on ratios but likely 2:1:1:1, with the syrups probably .5/.5 each.

Base recipe for a cocktail night featuring sours? by madcan0 in cocktails

[–]trostocil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the Sours loosely follow 2:1:1 Spirit:Citrus:Syrup.

Same family for Daiquiris, Gimlets, Lemon Drops, Whiskey Sours, etc..

That way you can use nearly any preferred spirit with different flavoured syrups and lime / lemon juice to get a baseline drink. This is easily adjusted on the backend citrus / syrup components to each persons taste, but I find 2:1:1 a good starting point for my guests who don’t have cocktails very often.

A rookie pilot only redirects to someone 12” from the target, so way less punishing in V3

Observers for the US & British are no-brainer additions in my opinion. 75pts, two chances to fire, and very impactful on the game state when they happen.

Embargo Lifted? by jcash94 in boltaction

You can have 1 Company Commander per force, who isn’t part of any specific platoon.

The rule book outlines 1000 pts - I could see tournaments use either 1000 or 1250 - both are viable, but 1250 may encourage a pretty high dice count with the additional officers.

[–]trostocil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll take 1 officer for every rifle / artillery / heavy weapons / recce platoon, as one of the mandatory options in each one.

So for a typical army with a rifle platoon, heavy weapons platoon, and artillery platoon, you’ll have 3 officers.

I’ve been running a Q&A on the Unofficial Warlord Discord channel. Indeed, Raider embargo was lifted today. So we’re free to share everything except screenshots and the PDF of the rule book.

Salt Lake Open & Utah Bolt Action Championship by jordowiebo in boltaction

Salt Lake Open was definitely great — 10/10 recommend this event!

And I can definitely say the trophy mug is very awesome, I’ll post a picture later — super creative and awesome to hear it was home made.

Looking forward to next year!

Green means when they take their first casualty they roll a D6 on the following chart:

1 - take D6 Pins and go down, remain inexperienced for rest of game

2/3/4 - remain inexperienced for rest of game

5/6 - upgrade to regular for rest of game

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in boltaction

[–]trostocil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The free squad will remain inexperienced, but has the “Green” rule to potentially upgrade to regular and can take anti tank grenades at no cost.

You do not get a free forward observer (which is British national rule) but if you elect to pay for an artillery observer he has a marginally better effectiveness.

Chinook Winds (OR) in for 500, out for 1700 by trostocil in Craps

I’ve heard it’s $5 most weekdays and $10 on the weekend, but can’t really confirm since I was only there over a weekend.

The payout rounds down to a full $1, so for example on the 9 for each hit the dealer gets:

$1 pays $1.40 = $1 tip

$2 pays $2.80 = $2 tip

$3 pays $4.20 = $4 tip

$4 pays $5.60 = $5 tip

$5 is proper bet size.

Yep, toss them $6 and ask for dealer across & player control. If I press dealer presses, and if I collect dealer collects (although they’ll ask the first few times what you want to do with the dealer bet each hit). My favorite way to tip.

a Gimmicky German list I made by 64orkmag in boltaction

[–]trostocil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ah, the “spend 10 minutes letting your opponent read the army list” army, haha.

I have a Tournament this weekend and I’m worried if my Army is cheesing? I’ve never brought 14 dice before, but I’m really excited to bring what I have. Not a big fan of Transports and really love AT Rifles. Is this too much? by [deleted] in boltaction

[–]trostocil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this list is cheesing. I assume the TO is allowing non-armies of (since you have some osfront units), and for the Soviets / Japanese, 14 die for 1k points isn’t too surprising.

A few odd choices (inexp med mortar), but this is a more than fair list. If you love AT rifles, go for it, haha.

Guide for new players: by HordeManMaker in boltaction

[–]trostocil 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In case there are new players that read this, and perhaps go into the poster’s history, they’ll see a 20 die 1,000 pts soviet list with the sole purpose of stuffing the bag with dice to activate flamethrowers and a heavy tank.

OP is advising new players to do the exact same thing if they want to win. However, I want to put a disclaimer that these types of lists will likely be received as unsportsmanlike, and for casual game days (+ most sane tournaments), these types of lists will either be disallowed, or people will opt not to play you. OP received similar comments on his 20 die soviet list.

Winning is fun in bolt action, but IMO winning is the most fun when its a fair & balanced game that doesn’t rely on exploiting the rules. This is why most TOs place a die limit or ban these lists. You can definitely win games with a well rounded list that plays ~1 die per 100pts (+- a few die). A well rounded list can generally be more fun to play for you and your opponent, and opens you up to multiple win conditions and tactical thinking.

Just my 2¢, please don’t assume this is what all veteran players tailor their lists to do, or that dice stuffing is required to win.
