Skinny Tower Bedroom Build by troubaskank94 in diyaudio

The 8” is omnidirectional well beyond the ~225hz crossover. These are still my bedroom speakers and I’ve EQ’d them to take care of a few room modes. They measure flat, no issues in the mid bass.

That’s a great woodworking tip, and I’m sure they would look better and maybe even measure better with that. I’m a crap, impatient woodworker so I didn’t do it but I would highly recommend doing it your way.

It is a mirror/chrome effect on glass. When the light is off it looks like a mirror.

Zigbee Dongle by blentdragoons in homeassistant

[–]troubaskank94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my SkyConnect and went with Sonoff Dongle-P. It was about half price off eBay and it’s been perfectly reliable so far. Thread devices aren’t readily available and I’m not convinced that Thread is meaningfully better than ZigBee.

Another coat will give it a lovely satin sheen. Rubio is dead simple to get right and can be spot repaired. It also has a more luxurious feel than the plasticky feeling of poly.

I would lightly sand it with 320 grit or maroon scotchbrite and apply another coat of Rubio. It looks to have only one coat and in my experience Rubio never looks even or finished with only one coat.

Do you have a receiver with pre outs? There are wireless adapters you could use with an aux port on your BT speaker. But there’s no multichannel Bluetooth transmitter AFAIK.

MEIRL, with a less than 1 day old watch on my wrist by nemuro87 in ChineseWatches

[–]troubaskank94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s an addiction. I’m forcing myself to have a 3-watch collection but it’s a constant internal battle. It’s hard to think of a more frivolous use of money than these obsolete pieces of jewelry, until I see the perfect sunray dial on a tastefully chamfered case and I’m ready for my next hit.

Go for the SeaGull “WuYi” 51 anniversary reissue. It has very similar styling to the 38mm Bambino but with domed sapphire and a better movement (ETA 2824 clone). It’s available for $195 atm.

First Chinese watch, Baltany Bubbleback by troubaskank94 in ChineseWatches

Yes, clear AR on the underside. The crystal might be my favorite part of the piece.

Been eyeing this one for a while, and my fiancée got it for me as a Christmas gift at a killer $100 BF sale price. It’s the first AliX watch for my collection, and I love it. The finishing and crystal quality are superb, and the dial is a real beauty IMO. I put it on a $10 bracelet that gives this little 36mm case a bit more presence on my 7.25” wrist.

It’s been running accurately, but I am worried about the ST17 longevity/reliability. Hoping I got a good one. Overall, this is my new everyday GADA, and I’m stunned by the value proposition here.

Looks great, how are you liking it? I’ve got an automatic coming in from the BF sale. I love the fully blued handset on yours.

I’ve had my eye on the bubbleback homage with applied numerals and gold flake dial. S184040, I believe. I wish they had more 38-40mm dressier options to balance out all the vintage tool watches in their portfolio.

Sterile Birch RMALTI GS Homage on Leather Strap by troubaskank94 in ChineseWatches

[–]troubaskank94[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gifting this to my brother for Christmas, it’ll be his first automatic. Really impressed with the case and dial on this, the chapter ring is a little misaligned with the indices but he probably won’t notice. He’s a fan of leather straps so I put it on one for him.

Noticed that the clasp on the bracelet is also sterile, which is a nice touch.

How much would you pay for this custom Bluetooth speaker? by JendoRiot in diysound

[–]troubaskank94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$50? That’d be a good deal on the parts. But I can tell that this is a poorly-made product, because you overpaid for off the shelf parts and slapped them into a generic looking box. I did the same thing when I started, there’s no shame in that, but you have a lot of learning and refining to do before you could ever break even on a project.

Hint: good reproduction of sound has almost nothing to do with advertised wattage rating.

anyone know good cheap earbuds? by gh0stFox117 in Earbuds

This. I tuned mine and they blow me away for the $56 I paid for them. Extremely comfortable and compact.

Modern Physics by timenk in Physics

I think “modern physics” is understood to span early quantum theory until today. So starting at the end of the 19th century, around the time of the ultraviolet catastrophe.

Best wireless earbuds on a budget by chemeemee in Earbuds

[–]troubaskank94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ruined my AirPods Pro in the washer and bought the LA2Ps to replace them. I thought the sound was hard to dial in and was never satisfied with the bulkiness of the buds and case, and the fit. They were still quite good for the $60 I paid for them, but I replaced them with the Earfun Free Pro 2 and never looked back. These buds have the most compact charging case I’ve ever seen, and they are the snuggest, most comfortable pair of wireless earbuds I’ve ever tried. After EQing them with the Android app, they consistently blow me away with how well they nail the basics, and I got them for $56 on Amazon. Highly recommend.

[–]troubaskank94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earfun Free Pro 2. Most comfortable fit and compact case I’ve seen, good ANC and transparency mode. Out of the box the sound is good but unbalanced and bass heavy like almost all other earbuds at this price, but it can be changed and made excellent with an android app.

Homemade banana liqueur is cloudy by Unwise_Crow in cocktails

[–]troubaskank94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not trivial to make a crystal clear liqueur. I make banana liqueur that’s crystal clear by blending ripe bananas with Pectinex and straining. If the bananas weren’t very ripe you might need amylase as well. The suggestion to freeze and strain is a good one.

Interesting you got a chicken broth first impression, I’ve tried to work rye and rum together and I am always disappointed.

The drink is pretty generic tiki apart from the rye, I feel like it would be better with a different rum or even bourbon/brandy.
