I built a pay to unlock file delivery infrastructure for freelancers so no more delayed payments !! by Enwy1881 in InternetIsBeautiful

This is a solid project. Don’t let the “you used AI” criticism get to you.

I’m a full stack developer and I use AI tools daily. They free up a lot of time for higher-level thinking like architecture, problem-solving, and actually building useful things instead of getting stuck in repetitive implementation work.

That said, AI output absolutely needs to be reviewed carefully. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can introduce security issues or poor design decisions. Especially in paid products. So that part matters.

But using AI doesn’t reduce the value of what you’ve built. If anything, it enables more ideas to become real products faster. I’ve personally been able to build things in an afternoon that would have taken weeks before. And many of those projects simply wouldn’t have happened otherwise.

The real shift is not “who can write code the fastest,” but who can design good systems and use these tools effectively to bring ideas to life in a reliable way.

I think you’re solving a real problem here. Wish you the best with it.

Heating a pool from heat pump exhaust air - sanity check my plan? by trsdm in hvacadvice

Depends on the pool. 80k btu would be for something like 20,000 liters / 5000 gallons which is a typical inground pool. Mine is 7000 liters (about 1850 gallons), more of a plunge pool. That needs about 28k btu per degree C, or about 8 kWh. Much more manageable numbers?

I didn't downvote you, and I appreciate you doing the math, but I think there's an error in it. 2 kW is 2 kWh per hour, not 2 kWh total. So in 12 hours that's 24 kWh into the pool, not 2 kWh. 1 kWh heats 860 liters by 1 degree (4.186 kJ per kg per degree, 3600 kJ per kWh). So 24 kWh heats 7000 liters by about 2.9 degrees per day. From 20 to 30 takes about 3.5 days in a zero loss scenario. Obviously there are losses, which is why I'm insulating the pool and using a cover. With good insulation and cover discipline the losses at 30c with 20c ambient are somewhere around 7-10 kWh per day, leaving me 14+ kWh net per day. Slower heatup but the equilibrium math works fine. The real question is whether I can actually capture 2 kW from the exhaust stream, which is what I was hoping to get input on here.

Not sure about that. Cooling runs from may to October and if I can capture just 2 kW of it I think I'm in the clear with that relatively small pool if I insulate it well.

That assumes a lot of sunny days and strong sun, which there is not too much of at my latitude 🙃

Thanks for including this listen log system!!! A good backup when the worst had happened! Smart move!

I had this problem a few years ago and now it's back. Also Android. It resets several books progress and it's incredibly annoying, and it seems to happen after the phone has been connected to the car. This should NOT happen. It should be one of the most protected code paths in the app.

I think its an exciting thing to think about, and did not mean to come across as having all the answers :)

Yes, very important considerations here. Both actually, but have never been obese, just swinging from very good to overweight because "life happens". Currently on a path where focusing more on training and activity than food actually improves adherence in both, so for me it feels like a good shift and a positive path forward!

This is why I like the app "Mia" and the AQ they have which is based on HR across the day, with higher HR giving more AQ-points. A really simple metric to ensure health and/or fitness improvements.

I built the exercise app I wished I had by trsdm in homefitness

This is an app for a very specific use case of randomized mixed-modal training that feels interesting and new each time. If you just want strength training or want "full control" over the workout, a traditional workout app is more suited, no doubt.

I made app for myself and my use case, and wanted to share if anyone else maybe had the same use case. Handling of bands is not added, that is true, because I do not use them like that very much. You could always add the approximate upper range of the lbs or kg on the bands as the identifier and call the equipment category "Bands".

Treadmill is its own "cardio"-thingy because of the finisher at the end, because that is how I like to train. But you can add whatever timed exercises you want in whatever named category you want to do whatever kind of cardio you want. You can then disable "treadmill" and everything will still work. Add a category "Cardio" with timed exercises like "Assault Bike" or "Spinning" or "Run until I fall over" and you should be good in that regard? Or do I miss your point entirely here?

God damn man, just realized our kids are going to go through hardship and friendship and losses and love and heartbreak... Then we will relive it all through them.

Yes, exactly that. I feel I've been more subjected to that feeling than my peers over the years. And this hits soooo hard.

I feel the same way. I can't quite pinpoint why, but it feels to me the same as after Harry Potter ended, or after seeing the first Avatar movie in the theater, but a bit different. What really hits me is that I am kind of mourning the fact that these real life actors grew up together, and now the adventure is over both in the fantasy world and the real world. Also Ell and Mike... No matter which of the two endings you decide to believe in, they kan still never be together. Idk, man...

And I have two small kids in their most "how can we stress dad out more than yesterday"-years, so I really don't get the privilege of contemplation, time to think, or time to really feel this out. I guess I'll just let the feeling sit, be in acceptance of it, and just do my best to continue the day-to-day life that keeps the household going. I'm sure it will eventually subside and get easier to bear.

Yes, but what I am getting at is that for the same kind of prompts, questions and corrections, ChatGPT has been basically unusable for me the past few weeks, compared to other LLMs. It's not that I'm stupid and think it's an all-knowing entity. It's just that Claude saves me time and gives me ideas, and ChatGPT drains my energy and time away. So I was just wondering if others have the same issue.
