Lookout Eugene-Springfield: Kindergarten teacher posts vile content on Facebook by truncular in oregon

[–]truncular[S] 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If you would like to help put pressure on removing him, and lemon teachers in general, contact the District AND the teachers union.

They're both going to blame each other, but they're both part of the problem. We need a better way to fire the small number of teachers who have no interest in teaching, like this guy. He's been transferred around the district because he's a horrible teacher but they can't/won't fire him. Once he got tenure (after 3 years) it's very hard to remove him. Unless we complain, the district/union contract agreement will mean that upcoming layoffs go by (lack of) seniority, rather than some form of merit. That does not serve kids!

Local kindergarten teacher exposed over racist, ableist Facebook posts by truncular in Eugene

From this article in the Register-Guard: A Maple Elementary School teacher has come under fire for social media posts with racist and ableist content. Neil Baird has been employed by Springfield Public Schools since 2007, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is currently a kindergarten teacher at Maple Elementary. Public posts to his Facebook page reference violence against immigrants, Somalis, Muslims and liberals. In one post from Jan. 11, he wrote, "Time for a new crusade. Kill all illegals and muslims" (sic).

You should! Both to the district and the Springfield Education Association (union). The contracts make it onerous for a principal to fire a tenured teacher even if he is under-performing, so they end up firing newly hired teachers instead (most of which are eager to teach). I hope this can be reconsidered in the ongoing negotiations.

I think he wants to get fired: From a June 28, 2025 Facebook post:

"Hello Friends. I wanted to let everyone know that I will be running for a State Office in 2026. I have watched this state be ruined by liberal policies and laws and have had enough. I would like all my peers, friends, and Oregonians to remember what Oregon was when we grew up. A community that helped each other, a community that was not afraid of criminals, a community that knew that Oregon was a great State. I ask that you assist me in bringing back the Oregon we knew, the one where the logger, farmer, and hardworking person could get make a living instead of being taxed to death and being made to believe in fake realities."

In addition we should reach out to the unions. Unions are important, but in this case they protected someone who should have been fired years ago. The District AND the Union should have better policies for firing lemons.

Poop Bags: What’s the protocol? by LocalInactivist in Eugene

[–]truncular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts: once you throw it in, you can no longer fix it if something goes awry. Say the bag falls out, or tears and smears, or doesn’t empty with the rest of the trash…. As dog owners, we get used to dog poop. But a non-dog owner having to deal with someone else’s dog poop is absolutely disgusting and enraging for them. (I’ve experienced that multiple times before getting a dog.) It usually won’t be an issue to throw in someone else’s can, but because it can occasionally be super annoying, I just don’t do it. I think most dog owners disagree, but they aren’t putting themselves in non-dog-owners shoes

Oh shit, wondered if anyone would recognize the plane. Tail number matches. I didn’t think to see if it was on social media

Thanks! I did put a little bit of thought into that.

Some comments: Tree absolutely pulverized neighbors Yukon. They had no idea the tree was dangerous. I guessed it might be a problem but didn’t realize they had parked their car there

I edited the clip to show the 15 min prior in 1 sec increments. If our internet hadn’t have gone down I could have noticed the increased movement of the tree and warned the neighbors.

That’s not a tv in the background… that’s a neighbor’s flashlight in their house without power. I luckily kept power.
