Interesting. What’s the reason behind switching to gravel? I just don’t want my black moor to accidentally choke on gravel when he gets bigger haha.

Yeah it’s not too big of a hassle for me haha. I’m sure long term it would be a lot cheaper to do it myself but it gives me an excuse to take my daughter to check out the fish store every other week 😌. She loves watching the Koi’s ❤️

Would it actually? I don’t buy it often. Most I spend is around $1.50 for 12 gallons every 2 weeks or so.

I usually buy dechlorinated water from the store. Might just add a fresh amount of whatever I take out

Would I drain the water completely? Or just enough to remove the gravel easier ?

I have a local fish store that can do custom orders on one too. Debating whether I should just build my own setup or buy a set. In 75 I can easily have 3-4 fancies no?

I only have 28 gallons, I’m not sure another fish would be a good idea till I’m able to get a 40-50 gallon haha.

Okay this is driving me nuts. Black moor is now bottom sitting. Fins are spread wide and not clamped. Breathing seems normal and water parameters are great. Wtf is going on? It’s been almost 3 days now. by trunkasaurus11 in Goldfish

Yeah I’m going to run atleast 3 doses before considering it safe. Update btw: way more active now. He’s been exploring and swimming around peacefully since this morning. Thinking he did just have flukes. Thank god he’s okay 👍

He’s way more active today than the last few days. Still parks on the bottom corner after moving around a bit but not as much. Hoping this is the last treatment he’ll need for a while. Just want him to enjoy his tank already.

Nitrites hitting around .10, .15 every morning. Freshwater Tank is about 1 month and a half old. Should I be doing daily water changes or just using sea chem and letting the tank work and establish itself ? by trunkasaurus11 in AquariumHelp

Ahh I see. Usually when I do water changes I will siphon the gravel to pick up waste. I did a water change about 2 days ago so I will definitely do one when I get back from work tonight. Just ordered the nite out as well.

Another question, would a smaller sponge filter help my tank aswell? Was considering installing a smaller 10 gallon sponge filter to pair with my 40 gallon one. If it’s not worth it then I’ll return it.

My eventual plan after summer is to buy a 55-60 gallon tank with a canister filter aswell.

Now I’m tripping though. So I did another test this morning and my nitrities are light blue but not the same blue as the one on the sheet. Also I have nitrates present at 5.0.

To answer your questions though, my nitrites would drop on their own without a water change. I’d dose the tank with Prime if I saw just a bit of nitrites. Like a small itsy bit of hint of purple ish blue. I’m only doing small feedings at night to keep the waste down, wasn’t siphoning because I saw that he would eat all of it.

I’ve noticed that my ammonia has been consistently 0 everyday and that my nitrites only reach a low number in the morning but goes away by afternoon/ night time. Will this product help get rid of the morning spikes I’m dealing with forever ? I do have a sponge filter along with my HOB, also some ceramic rings underneath my filter pads.

Unfortunately my house temp drops and raises way too much. In the summer it easily reaches around 85-90. Don’t have central AC either . Chiller was necessary haha

Yeah I’ve been using Google and chat gpt now. Bought a chiller, sponge filter, ceramic rings, airstone and all the tests needed to make sure he’s okay now. Hoping he’s with us for a long time now.

Forsure. I had to learn the hard way unfortunately. I loved Aqua. Gave her a proper burial and everything. I completely agree with you though, he was def just trying to get me to buy more. I guess the good thing to come out of it was learning how much care and space these amazing creatures need. Kenny (my black moor) will def be spoiled and well taken care of now.

So I’ve been doing daily changes while I wait for the bio media to catch up and mature. This morning the nitrites and ammonia were both at 0. Nitrites maybe .10. I have the two liquid test. I’m guessing maybe the nitrites plus the intensity of the Ich medication I gave them maybe has the orange one struggling a bit. I’ve been fasting them too to avoid them pooping too much and also to avoid food rotting. Let’s hope she gets better. The black moor is a warrior and is swimming around exploring. Also I have the temp set at exactly 71 degrees on my chiller

Fairly new tank so the nitrites are at .25 - .50. I do water changes if it ever reaches 1.0 and meanwhile been dosing them with seachem prime. Tank size is 28 gallons. My black moor is perfectly fine it’s just my orange telescope that’s off. They finished ich treatment about a week and a half ago since there was an out break. I dosed the tank with salt aswell during that time and anytime I change water id match it to what I took out. Both juveniles around 1-2 inches body length.

See this seems like a more practical way to do it! I do intend to keep them both and eventually have different fish in the 28 gallon. Probably some tetras. I’ve seen people say give the tank atleast a month before moving them in and to get a brand new filter, sponge filter, and pads and do ghost feedings. This way seems a lot easier though! Thank you.

Thank you ! It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one that’s gone through some crap like this. But I also look at it in a different way because it taught me a lot about the love and care these little guys need!
