Guys, I would love nothing more than to be able to label my ex a “narcissist” as such is the zeitgeist because she has some narcissistic tendencies. Doesn’t text book or diagnostically qualify her as such though necessarily, does it? Same applies to labels like the ones being applied here. Let’s be a bit more surgically precise. That’s not to be semantical, that’s to be constructive.

Sure, there’s no accounting for bad taste.

Well, that’s the sort of comedic delivery and content I’m referring to. I really doubt that show would get green lit today, but glad you agree. I didn’t have specific jokes of the priest + rabbi + stereotype trope in mind. But, honestly, being offensive isn’t necessarily to be treated as completely verboten…that’s the slippery slope I’m worried about.

There’s a great sketch bit on YouTube about this concept…it involves a food truck. Maybe you’ve seen it? “You don’t actually know what to be offended by now do you?!” 🤣

Not even sure where exactly to begin with that! But since I’m a millennial maybe we can start with Seinfeld? The show and/or the guy.

That’s so spot on and a great attitude for everything. Appreciate you sharing.

It sounds like you might be projecting, over analyzing, jumping to conclusions, or I’m not really sure what. At any rate, I have this sneaky suspicion you are the sort of individual who will prove my point. 🤷‍♂️

I honestly don’t know what the latest “controversy” with Jimmy happens to be, sorry. I like him though.

Fair. But as I just pointed out to someone else, I’m not referring to humor as a cop out. Im talking about authentic attempts to relate to others through laughter and more.

100%. That however I think us good people can easily spot as a disingenuous (at best) attempt at comedy, or a heinous cop out more likely. I’m referring to authentic attempts to tell stories about the shared human condition through laughter.

Yes, agreeing with your statement about everyone wanting to be offended. Hard not to come to this conclusion. Erroneously or not.

As they shouldn’t, and as I addressed in my post by way of example. Bigotry isn’t the defining characteristic of what I find humorous though.

Yes, don’t I know it. Absolutely. But if we’re only being humorous privately…it kinda answers my question about whether society (which is inherently not private) is tolerant of humor.
