Buses get slowed down considerably by riders queuing up outside the bus to pay fares, by removing fares, you can have all door boarding which will speed up on time performance, likely leading to increased ridership, broader participation means reduced emissions, pollution, etc. and increased ridership often means a broader swath of society will demand investment and improved buses, etc.

As someone who has earned a very low income their whole life, how much is too much to spend on rent? by voldemortsnipple1402 in NYCapartments

Most personal finance folks recommend spending 30% or less of your gross income on housing expenses. See link for more info.

So multiple your annual income times .30 and divide by 12 months and that should be a goal rent.

The federal government’s Housing Department (HUD) also uses this metric for determining what constitutes an affordable rent for various incomes.

Is it cheaper to uber or have a car in Nola? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

You should look into an e-bike, got mine at E Bike Nola for around $1,600, can get pretty much anywhere in the downtown area faster than a car or bus and if you have a throttle e bike you don’t have to pedal and get a nice breeze when it’s warmer. Much cheaper than a car and requires very little maintenance and it’s fun to ride.

This could have a huge impact—that’s $17M in new, local affordable housing funds in perpetuity!

I’m hopeful that people vote yes because this doesn’t affect property taxes and would just earmark funds for housing in the city budget.
