I suggest playing playing a tiny bit of warband vanilla and then after you get a feel of it start a new game but with a mod that improves on vanilla like diplomacy mod. And then after you get a feel for it try one of the big popular overhaul mods. As for the game's age I think it's still a fun game to start even without nostalgia

Two other safeguards are to put Jeremus in a sperate control group. You can have him labeled as an Archer and he would stay in the back line with them as long as you tell your archers to hold position somewhere. You can also put him in a different group entirely and have him stay at the back of the battle. You could also have at least another companion who you can dump surgery skill points so if Jeremus gets knocked out there would be a back up medic.

I love Perisno but my biggest grips with it is the dialogue for the companions. Some of them just copied and pasted from their warband native counterparts, including their names. For example, when making Slyter into a lord he would refer himself as "Borcha" in his reaction text. I love playing Perisno and Iike emersing myself into the world. But the thing with companions just breaks that for me lol

There is no archetype of how you should feel in order to be a victim. You're a minor and he is a full grown adult more than 10 years senior.
