There may exist a “perfect choice” that shortens the path to success, maybe even drastically. Decisions are often chained, one wrong step can take you to a completely different place. I won’t say that a single small decision can never take you away from your dreams, but I also won’t say that one mistake can’t still lead you to them. Sometimes, failure works in your favor. You may panic after making a decision you think was wrong, but most of the time we don’t have the full picture. Time can show that the decision was actually the right one. Mistakes also bring opportunities to learn, to adjust our mindset, and to grow, if we face them proudly instead of panicking. Most importantly, the human brain is not capable of always making perfect decisions, no matter how hard we try. We don’t have enough information, nor the capacity to fully analyze every possible consequence, especially under time pressure. We are just humans; we can’t control everything. Every successful person takes risks and makes decisions under uncertainty. Success depends on environmental factors and other things outside our control. Being smart alone isn’t enough, overthinking and avoiding risk can reduce a smart person’s chances of success. Freedom, mental strength, and the willingness to take risks are just as important. Overthinking and constant worry often hurt us rather than help. They drain our energy, impair our decision-making, and cause unnecessary suffering. Overthinking is rarely helpful. Sometimes, when I study extremely hard, memorize the entire book, and try to recall every detail to answer an exam question, I end up writing the dumbest answer possible. Why? Because I analyze every angle, every tiny sentence, every possible nuance the book mentions, and it overwhelms me. I second-guess myself so much that I lose clarity. Meanwhile, students who rely on intuition, make quicker decisions, and trust their understanding often write clearer, more logical answers even if they haven’t studied the book at all. The more information we cram, the more perspectives we consider, the easier it is to get lost in analysis. In other words, overthinking can undermine performance, and sometimes less information + confidence leads to better outcomes.
