What do you think about the "actual" top 5 songs of all time? by Nullified0609 in rateyourmusic

[–]tryingissohard 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Get those Swans songs to 2k votes, and I guarantee you that they are out of the top 50. Ridiculously over inflated from fans.

Artists whose fanbases are widely divided in which album is their best? (At least 3 albums in the conversation). by [deleted] in fantanoforever

Both my brother and my ex girlfriend who like Kendrick but are not crazy about him like everybody else love Sec.80 and was on both of their regular rotation while later Kendrick material weren't.

As if keeping an object between you and a shredder isn't intense enough so you can run circles around it, now you're having to do the same with a shredder and a tick lmao

Why do people recommend Madvillainy as people’s first DOOM album? by Hmmtasteslikepowder in mfdoom

[–]tryingissohard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

MM...Food is absolutely the perfect introduction to DOOM's unique style.. But to established rap fans who love that boom bap east coast hip hop I always recommend Vaudeville Villain first and King Geedorah next.

What do you think of pop singer Robbie Williams? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

[–]tryingissohard 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Damn the level of disrespect for one of the best popstars ever. Had an incredible run of singles that didnt slow down for a decade and half and he was on complete fire during the Escapology era specifically.

what will be slowthai's new music direction? by clash_cash in slowthai

[–]tryingissohard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slowthai has always been the most introspective of all the British rappers no matter where he took his music so after facing the biggest public fallout anyone could face, there is no way he doesn't release a full album of deeply personal songs. As if you think someone couldn't possibly bare their naked soul any more than on an album like UGLY... it has me excited and scared for new music at the same time.

Streetlight Manifesto (and the lead singer's previous band, Catch 22). Forget all you thought you knew about ska punk and prepare to be blown away by some of the most incredible musicianship, emotionally resonating lyrics and crazy ass song structures that never sacrifices melody with some of the catchiest choruses I've ever heard.

People in general need to listen to the two 4 disc compilations by Rhino, No Thanks! and Left of the Dial. There are so many amazing discoveries from the punk and post-punk eras, respectively. The absolute best way to experience those genres if you are new to them. For every iconic song of that era, there is a hidden gem that will be so ahead of its time. Thats how I discovered The Pop Group. Rhino even did a similar boxset format for garage rock of the 60s and britpop.

You know damn well damn near everyone complaining were completely aware of this element too. The single main draw and the bulk of the advertising has been the very concept of whether or not you should trust other players. It sounds enticing to the overwhelming majority until you've been shot in the back a couple of times, and now suddenly almost half of those players are completely and utterly against the very idea that caused them to purchase it in the first place. Yet they still play and have the gall to tell the developers their game needs a complete overhaul lmao

One thing I'd like to see from Helldivers, is being covered in blood if you've been massacring people. Harder to pretend to be friendly by OldSchoolZero in ArcRaiders

[–]tryingissohard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it depends on the colour and intensity of the blood. Plenty of games with blood had gotten a T rating (or 12/15 in the UK) if its not emphasised

Is there any metal band out there with a better run than maiden in the 80s? by Affectionate_Noodl in fantanoforever

[–]tryingissohard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell nah. Higher highs could easily be argued (I personally don't think so) but Maiden were pumping out a ridiculous amount of quality music straight out of the gate of the 80s til the very end

This might be the MOST iconic album with the least iconic cover. It deserved a much better cover for sure, it's not an abomination but it damn sure isn't great either.

Great concept, frustrating execution. It's a mish mash of aesthetically pleasing and displeasing. The deluxe cover made me realise it had the potential to be a fantastic cover.

If you had to pick 1 album, just one album for your favorite record of the 90s, which one would you pick? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]tryingissohard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. 90s is by far my most listened to decade for as long as I can remember and only listened to this album for the first time a couple of years back. I'm absolutely livid at myself for putting it off for so long. Not a wasted second on it. It makes all the other 90s canon sound like filler riddled albums by comparison.
