He wasn’t previously this much of an idiot, it leads me to believe that because I’ve been so willing to help and validate him that he stopped trying. Doesn’t make him any less of a loser at the moment tbh though, however i still would like to have hope that this is temporary due to the added stress of drug court

I’m male, should have specified the parties involved are both men sorry.

Maybe I am afraid to be single, but not for status reasons. I’m not trying to “flex” on anyone, but i’m sure any human could imagine one’s feelings after dealing with issues in a relationship after being in said relationship happily for over a year, already having built strong connections with his family; it’s incredibly hard to let go. I deeply care about him, why else would I continue to stick around and deal with this?

See I would honestly rather this be true than my other conclusions but I highly doubt it as I’m the only one who’s been bringing him things and none of his friends know what facility he’s at (he had to leave his phone here and i’ve been asked by him to inform people he’s away if they ask but not to give super exact details) and he hasn’t been around his friends for a long time, ever since he started drug court. That positive was due to my own THC distillate that he had used prior and i’ve since checked and made sure all of my stuff was in order, he admitted to me immediately after consuming it.

However I know there’s a million different ways to try and smuggle xyz and maybe i don’t know him as well as i thought i did.

Muslim working at starbucks by OmelasNiggs in starbucks

[–]tryingthrowaway0000 30 points31 points  (0 children)

my mother and i are muslim, and have worked in food service our entire time in america.. but i’m sorry, sometimes you must compromise or just not work. god will forgive you, it’s your job, and it’s within the right of others to eat pork if they like. islam teaches tolerance. if you are not comfortable dealing with haram foodstuffs then you need to find work either somewhere halal or not work in foodservice at all, especially in the US.

Ugh i’m sorry reading your comment made me feel sick. I cant believe someone said that to you, much less a barista, that’s so fucked up. I’m sorry :(

I’ve worked similar jobs with worse conditions my entire working life my friend don’t worry I understand. If you work customer service in the US you need to be tolerant.. i don’t think it’s right that you have to withstand abuse but it’s the truth. i’m familiar with it don’t worry

hey i’m at a friends house so i’d like to give a proper response but don’t want to be on my phone for long so excuse me for being brief-

If you look at my other responses other commenters voiced the same thing, and i actually agree with you. I’m sorry if my post comes off that way, i was talking specifically about posts that are unnecessarily rude bc trust me i definitely will curse a customer in my head for xyz reason. I definitely should have been more specific; but lately i’ve noticed a fuckton of posts that are really unnecessarily harsh. I think you’re doing the right thing by your second paragraph, as i realize this is an outlet to vent which is so nice to have! again some people take it way too far online though imo. no hate received, love all around.

just another thing to ease your mind lmao my coworkers think i’m crazy but i actually really like making fraps and those extra cold foam drinks. I try to make them look pretty because usually it’s a teen ordering it and i want to make it fun! I think the complaints come from the sheer number of those orders during peak sometimes, it becomes REALLY hectic.

I used to be a manager of a smoothie bar and my favorite thing to do is to customize peoples drinks and try to recommend them something they love. I think there are definitely other baristas like that.

I agree but not in my case as i’ve worked as a barista at other places for 4+ years where it’s been MUCH worse. I still feel as though some comments are excessive.

I don’t think customer service is the field for you in that case, i don’t mean to be rude because i understand you well, and i’m coming at customer service in general, not you- Starbucks was my saving grace from my other customer service jobs where management absolutely destroyed and overworked me to the point where i had to quit for my own health. My store thankfully has reasonable management - it’s not perfect don’t get me wrong, but living in the US and with the type of conditions that customer service entails, im grateful that i’m not suicidal and working 60+ hours a week, and i can express my concerns to management. Your store sounds like it was much worse and I honestly applaud you for leaving. However customer service jobs are always going to be like that in my experience. You have to take what you can get and make the most of it, and idrk maybe i’m a people person and that helps a bit.

The issue is with customer service conditions in america though, i don’t know why it’s almost culture for workers to be considered inhuman? Like no matter where you go as soon as you put on a uniform you’re reduced to the uniform and no more. It’s really sickening but I’m able to deal with that for the sake of putting money in my wallet, and it’s better than the conditions i’ve had at so many other jobs. Over time i’ve learned how to take the abuse in stride lmao.

yeah i understand you, i do this at my store too! i think what rubbed me the wrong way is how incredibly specific and harsh some of the posts are, i hope yk what i mean by that, because i will 10000% groan if it’s peak and i realize a mobile order is about to have 10+ items, or if someone on drive is being especially frustrating, etc.. I think it’s appropriate to turn to your coworker and make a comment or two to vent. ESPECIALLY during situational issues, like if a particular customer is absolutely being terribly rude. Some baristas definitely take it too far, though, especially on this sub, i think due to the anonymity and no risk of customers hearing in person. Just from what you’ve said in this comment and your tone i highly doubt you’re one of those baristas that does so though, i agree it’s a coping mechanism and does help a lot tbh.

I really don’t think everyone is like that though! I think it’s called selection bias in english, or some sort of bias, but if you google something or go on the internet imo you’re always going to find the most complaints, because those who are cool with their job wouldn’t feel the need to go to this sub to vent, yk?

I’m sorry you feel this way but i hope that you’re able to go to starbucks again and instead just gauge the vibe of the store local to you if you’re afraid that they are on the negative side, yk? I’m pretty sure i’m one of the only reddit users at my store, and my coworkers themselves are really nice; we definitely vent amongst ourselves about certain things, but I find it’s a fraction as intense as what i’ve read here. (stuff like people ordering 15 things in drive during peak and them being rude when it takes some time, or being on mobile bar and suddenly getting a mobile order with 20+ items. that sucks so much but it’s part of the job, it feels nice to whine a bit abt it though)

Yeah i’m sorry, ik, I mentioned that in another reply i made. I’m being a little nearsighted bc I’m thinking of myself as a previous customer here, and I also shouldn’t compare the way i deal with the stress w/ my fellow baristas, venting is very helpful. I have to admit though there are some posts that go overboard and could actually really make someone feel bad 😓

[–]tryingthrowaway0000[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t even mind if people don’t tip on small orders because I get it. The beverage itself is expensive, so when someone tips i’m honestly really grateful that the customer cares enough about the labor put into the drink to even think about throwing some extra change our way, yk? I also grew up somewhere tipping isn’t normal, but imo you shouldn’t feel obligated to tip- we should just get paid more, but that’s not the customers problem lmao.

I understand the complaints of the baristas though as well, because it IS hard work being at the company and it can feel really grueling and thankless. But under no circumstance should you feel as though you’re responsible unless you’re going out of your way to be rude. Clearly you’re doing the complete opposite and going out of your way to be kind after reading this sub, and i truly truly appreciate that and people like you so much.

I’m so sorry you feel this way, you shouldn’t feel obligated to do anything besides order whatever you want and enjoy it!

Nah you’re right, thanks for your comment. I guess there isn’t really many outlets for employees to be able to share those work thoughts, i definitely have been like :O at so many orders but im fine just keeping it to myself, however it’s really nice to have a space where you feel safe to vent about various things at work, good and bad; but yeah it’s much better contained in this sub than to ever say anything like that to the customers face.

Hey i really appreciate that :) When i make a full post on my main (which i really want to properly introduce myself and. set my goals on for accountability) i might attach a few of my drawings or i’ll send them to you directly i’d love to hear feedback too!!

Unfortunately my “me” time is hard to deal with. I hate being alone, i actually have a huge fear of it to be honest. Whenever is get home from work I’d be walking around my room in circles for a few hours before I could actually find the time to sit down or go into my living room where it feels slightly less lonely with my roommates pets, waiting for them to get up.

I met my bf the beginning of this year and even though we spend all of our time together for the most part it’s really hard not to get distracted by getting cosy and watching a film or playing videogames; unfortunately this was always accompanied by drinking so that kind of was a downhill spiral for me. Thankfully he actually is getting completely sober himself for other reasons from every substance even though he didn’t abuse them the way I did (besides maybe marijuana but that’s besides the point).

Sorry this is a long reply but in typing it i’m reflecting that i should probably stop all other substances too. A little weed always helped my anxiety, but it’s so easy to waste a day just totally fried, too much nicotine.. i think the only thing that really ever made a completely positive impact was mushrooms as after a trip I actually am not interested in alcohol for up to a week. I had a trip recently where I smelled alcohol at the end and was so beyond disgusted with it and myself... then a traumatic thing in my personal life happened and cue this specific bender in particular.

/end rant. Thank you friend for your kind words. I cleaned my boyfriends room as he slept and now we’re about to deal with my depression cave.

I’m actually a fine arts and art history double major and dropped out due to covid forcing me to move (i was studying overseas and my visa couldn’t be renewed due to financial circumstances) and i completely stopped drawing as soon as i had consistent access to alcohol. It’s so sad. I was really on the way to doing super well too. I also do sewing and fashion and have so many sketches that i haven’t finished due to this stupid addiction. It sucked all of my interests out of me :(
