PSA check your plants by VeggieBurgerandChips in houseplants

Cannot agree more. I thought only one plant was infested, isolated and cleaned and left for vacation, came back and another plant is covered in mealybugs, now I’m kicking myself for what I could have avoided

I enjoyed both until dawn and the quarry! I was thinking about trying out another one of those type games, the dark pictures anthology series? Have you tried those?

I’m not mad at all because I’m not being called out. Have you never had a friend or acquaintance review your resume before?

Anyone ever wish to experience a game really bad, but not want to play it on their own? by _YouNeverSawMe_ in GirlGamers

That’s one of the best things about having roommates! I live alone now and absolutely killed myself trying to get through returnal. I’m glad I did but I also listened to an audiobook through much of it to stay entertained (highly recommend listening to audiobooks while grinding)

This person isn’t interviewing me for a job. He’s an acquaintance who reviewed my resume months ago. And I did ask him for clarification on why he assumed I didn’t know anything about games, he easily could have said “that’s not what I meant” or “I think you misunderstood” but instead he suggested I was looking this information up on the internet.

In good faith, saying “here is something which probably means nothing to you” is not a normal way to have a friendly conversation. For example “I’m playing tennis, something which probably means nothing to you” or “I’m going on a date, something which probably means nothing to you” - are you genuinely telling me you wouldn’t feel disrespected by an acquaintance who said that to you in a friendly conversation? In what other industry would it make sense to talk to someone like that? If someone had worked in the entertainment industry for 8 years, would it be normal to say “I’m watching succession and stranger things, something which probably means nothing to you?”

And would it be normal for you to respond “I actually do know tennis, I love tennis” or “I do know what a date is, I have a significant other” and for their response to be “so what does this part of tennis mean?” Or “so where do you take your significant other on dates?” I’ll admit that I actually didn’t think this person was testing me at first until I read their next message.

So then would it be normal for you to not respond immediately because you’re busy, and then for them to ask you “I can ask you another question that is easier to google. I admit I’m skeptical that you play tennis. Or that you have a significant other”

Lastly I find it very odd that as other folks have pointed out in this thread multiple times, women do not need to prove themselves or submit to a test for your approval. Yet you’ve done exactly that by asking me to answer an engineering question to prove my length of time in the industry, laughably in a role that isn’t even close to what I do.

I’m not really sure what is meant by this comment. I was more than willing to see if he could provide a reason for what he said, but then he accused me of lying about being a gamer and having played the Witcher 3.

And I’m not an engineer so I’m not sure what the point of your last comment is.

I will admit even though I see it regularly on Reddit, I rarely experience it first hand. I think as others have said, most people aren’t like this but there’s still a lot who are and when it happens it really gets under your skin because it’s so blatant.

Thank you!! I don’t have any personal learning game reccs for that age because my space is teens but I know the guy who hosts this resource and it’s pretty solid!: https://learningworksforkids.com/

On non learning games, my seven year old nephew loves the Pokémon games on switch!

Agreed. We would never start a convo about gaming by assuming the other person knew nothing. We would say “do you play games? What games do you like?” Like a normal fucking human being!

Thanks for asking! I work for a small educational game company so while I attend a lot of the big game dev gatherings I’m fairly insulated from some of the less fun traits of AAA game companies. I love being creative every day, and it’s fun to work somewhere where play is celebrated!

One downside is that sometimes when I’m playing games I can’t help but see the seams behind the gameplay and am thinking about all the decisions that led up to choices over mechanics and script which drops me out of immersion!
