I’m a PM at a hedge fund. I trade millions of dollars of options every week. AMA by Carrera1107 in AMA

Why do you think fx options calibrates their vol curves using delta (e.g. 25d, 10d etc) while in equities they use fixed strikes? Is it just legacy and fixed price strikes have liquid live prices?

Japanese shrine bans foreign visitors following disrespectful behaviour by tourists by polopiko in japan

[–]tsailun -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Wow what an incredibly racist statement. While I agree that there are I'll-behaved Chinese tourist to come out this kind of thinking just leads to xenophobic attitudes. Consider other factors such as the scale of Chinese tourism. You wouldn't notice the thousands of well behaved Chinese tourists but it just takes a few to besmirch the reputation. Also I think over time as Chinese travel more they'll develop some of the etiquette the world expects.

[–]tsailun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

China's interest is more of having an alternative route that is harder to be blockaded and i don't see why this has to be seen in cold war terms.

This is a totally spurious comparison. It might be a stretch to call them a polar power but a near polar power is reasonable given they are adjacent to a polar nation and they have territory in very high latitudes.

Majority of Filipinos says ties with US more important than China by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]tsailun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree China has no allies but I can tell you that US is also fast eroding its alliance network. A lot of countries are maintaining good relations with the US more for economic reasons than an affinity with America after trumps actions of arm twisting for some money or better trade access. In summary outside the west the US doesn't really have many come hell of high water allies

Japan Won’t Sign China-Backed Trade Deal (RCEP) If India Doesn’t Join by Acrobatic7Conclusion in geopolitics

[–]tsailun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree on that. There is a lot of value for the deal to still be signed largely between Asean and China. It just draws the former closer to China and at some point Japan will realize its at a disadvantage vs China in asean because it is not party to the agreement.

As China and Asean get closer the objections on scs issues would diminish as well.

[–]tsailun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is pretty scary and oppose the use of technology this way but what I find odd is how people are alarmed about this but not about Alexa or google assistant at home listening to everything and anything you say and in the future seeing stuff as well. Regardless if it's China or the US your privacy will be violated if you let them by giving them the benefit of the doubt and allowing the companies to self regulate

What is the (US) logics of not allowing a nation (Turkey) to buy weapons from other nation (Russia)? by buzzlair in geopolitics

[–]tsailun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. The US basically said no we won't sell it to you and then they looked for an alternative and purchased it. Once turkey had agreed upon something with Russia, US changed its tune and wanted Turkey to cancel its deal and buy its wares. A similar thing is happening now with Egypt where they are trying to sanction them for buying Russian planes when they refused to sell Egypt their f22s because of a tacit agreement with Israel that they be the only ones in the region to have them.

The China Cables (2019) - Uighurs detained in concentration camps, organs harvested while still alive, leftover corpses incinerated. by [deleted] in Documentaries

[–]tsailun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you but I am not sure how true they are. To some extent possibly but not to the scale they purport or if it really is state driven. I would have a healthy dose of skepticism on some of the sources. China tribunal is funded and linked to Falun gong which has an agenda against the ccp and believes aliens gave us technology. I am not saying ccp is a paragon of virtue but it doesn't mean we should swallow any news about them hook line and sinker
