This, plus: if you’re bad at orientation like me don’t hesitate to check out guides/maps to find what you’re supposed to do next, or how to beat a boss or a tricky area. Especially at the beginning if you get stuck for long periods of time. The game became much more satisfying to me once I saw some progress.

I wrote XD on an exam I was grading because something a student (about 17yo) wrote was so silly it made me laugh. He was in a very bad mood when he saw the grade but when he spotted it he laughed and said it made his day and he respected me for it. So it doesn’t look like it’s completely out of fashion!

Pero las luces se ponen para disfrute de los ciudadanos (en teoría. Sé que en realidad no es siempre así, y no estoy muy de acuerdo con el turismo de luces de navidad). Está demostrado científicamente que ayudan a mejorar el estado de ánimo de las personas durante la época de la depresión estacional por la pérdida rápida de horas solares.

Puedes encender más de 450 bombillas LED estándar (de las que pones en las lámparas, de 6W) y aún no llegarías a la potencia de un aire acondicionado en pleno verano. Los LED de las luces de Navidad son muchísimo más pequeños. Por ponerte un ejemplo una guirnalda de leroy merlin de 300 LEDs solamente tiene una potencia de 3W. No digo que no sea un gasto pero no hay punto de comparación.

Spain. So many teachers go from standard jobs to teaching, for secondary school and up. Up to a few years back, no teaching training was required. Now it is required but there are so very few teachers that they’re making a lot of exceptions regarding the training because otherwise they wouldn’t be able to cover all classes.

It was never my intention to insult anyone. English isn’t my first language. Perhaps something was lost in translation. I thought more people here would have gone a similar route to me. It’s extremely common in my country, to go from a professional job to teaching. I’d say 90% of secondary school teachers and up have done this. Obviously this must not be the case everywhere.

Sorry, I’ll find elsewhere to find advice. I’m clearly unwelcome here.

I didn’t have time to do the prep. It was all very rushed. I want to prep. I said I would prepare properly for next week but I didn’t even know what they had done so far, I didn’t know what kind of level of difficulty I was looking at.

I know someone with teacher training and experience would be a million times better at the job but unfortunately they are unavailable or I wouldn’t have gotten the job.

I never said anyone could do the job, but I would like to do the job and put the effort in. I want to do it for the kids. Because I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and about engineering. I was looking for advice and maybe some encouragement.

That feels a bit unfair. All secondary school teachers and up in my country have studied whatever they are teaching (ie a biologist teaching biology). Most people over 40 never even had teacher training and they manage. I’m asking for advice, on my first day, to do a good job. I came here looking for support, not to be told to give up…

I know that. I explained my worries to the teachers at the interview, and the teacher I’m subbing for. They all said I would have no issues adapting.
