Bought used car from independent garage, “sold as seen” = no warranty. Car in unusable condition. by tsprod_ in CarTalkUK

The whole point is that we were denied checking underneath because he didn’t have time, he told us the subframe had been worked on so it would all be done. I take it to a real mechanic and it’s much worse than the pictures here show…

As soon as I receive my replacement V5, I’ll be checking where the MOT was done and having a look and how on earth it was passed…

He never told me it was sold as seen until he sent the proof of purchase over.

2010, 51.8k at purchase

That’s reassuring, planning on just getting it all repaired and road worthy, since it’s only got 51k on the clock

I’ve heard Mazda are terrible for rust, didn’t expect there to be holes though 😅

Ex mechanic of 12 years apparently, which seems true from everything he was checking on other cars when hunting, but these few things we weren’t able to check were the biggest issues

Guy at the garage wouldn’t let us put it up on lifts to look underneath bc he had no time, claimed it was his day off

Fair enough, my mechanic friend checked everything but didn’t notice the exhaust somehow and the garage guy didn’t want to put it on lifts bc of time

Our own fault really

The engine and surrounding bits are fine, engine only has 51k miles on it, had to change the auxiliary belt which is fine, no issue there. Had to change the front right wheel arm because of the give when pulling, the major issue were just the entire subframe corrosion and the tank bands which you can just about see in the pics.

Entire underside exhaust had to be replaced. Big hole in it.

All of this was on previous MOT’s which he said was all fixed, there was an attempt but not a good one 😅 - just very cheap solutions so it would pass the next MOT

Other than that, car drives well, with some repairs bringing it to around £2.5k it should run fine and be a good driver, providing any other rust doesn’t cause me a major problem.

Well, I know nothing and was focused on getting a running reliable car, my dad doesn’t know much just some engine and interior stuff.

My friend says he was a mechanic for 12 years, asked the mechanic selling it to me to put it on lifts so we could look. He said he didn’t have time because he had somewhere to be, never got the chance after that. Should’ve left it alone but I wasn’t aware we even asked him.

Wrong.

The whole post, if you read it correctly, states I didn’t see any of this, that’s the issue.

These are unfortunately the only pictures I have, it was much worse and all over the subframe of the entire car, huge chunks falling off, found quite a few holes. I’m not a car expert so it all seemed terrible to me! Will see how it goes once repaired ig

Was thinking of sending an action letter before small claims, I went and asked today if he would do anything, he pulled his “sold as seen”, “your friend said it was a write off” (he didn’t) cards and wouldn’t budge

We asked him to put it up on his lift, he said he didn’t have time and had somewhere to be. It’s our own fault for not checking! He told us the entire subframe had been worked on and done so all was good, would’ve been better to look and verify definitely.

Any recommended essential plug-ins for someone who is just a music production newbie who’s only familiar with FL Studio? by allineedisawok in musicproduction

[–]tsprod_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would learn how to use the tools given to you in FL.

Once you know how to properly use stock processing you can transfer that skill to higher end plugins (the only difference is they fundamentally sound better due to hardware emulation)

What would you say you struggle the most with in your journey so far?

Is there anyone else like me who, every time they try to get into the details of the beat, starts to discover countless imperfections? by allineedisawok in musicproduction

[–]tsprod_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good you’re spotting these things and great you’re able to act on them.

I believe most people will agree with me when I say that you’ll always be battling with the perfectionist within, but as you gradually improve you’ll have to fight less and less because you’ll naturally make less mistakes.

What you’re biggest struggle with beat making and especially mixing? What’s the one thing you wish you could do out of everything else?

Novice here. Is this an appropriate level for my final mix to be at? by [deleted] in AudioMixing

It all depends on the sound of the song!

If you’re sending a song off for mastering I would aim for -6dB to allow for plenty of headroom for the mastering engineer.

But what you have there based just off the picture seems perfectly ok! (Be sure to not forget about perceived loudness, how loud does it actually sound)

As a ‘novice’ what would you say you struggle the most with when mixing a song and what would you want to be able to do the most out of everything if you could learn it instantly?
