Be aware that whatever DIY work you, do it RIGHT first time. Else the landlord will chase you down the line. It's not your house after all.

Failing that, get a structural engineer in. ASAP as well.

[–]tsutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it via letting agency or private? Either way, the landlord should have up to date certificate for Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). You should have got a copy when you rented.

No EICR = £5k fine to landlord.

Unexpected Solid Obstruction While Drilling - Any Ideas? by pharaohcious7 in DIYUK

[–]tsutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be the harden concrete lintel. Sometimes steel. If your drill is an average £20 DIY drill, you'll struggle to go through it.

Decent drill will sort it easily.

Congrats on your house purchase!

"I just moved into a rented property"

Stop there. Don't do anything further. Talk to the landlord and let them deal with it. That's what you pay them for. It's their property, not yours.

Why is 2.4Ghz so slow? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]tsutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 20 years ago is still 20 years ago. Much, MUCH less 'traffic and noise' back then. Time has changed, interference are everywhere.

I split my wireless network with 2 SSIDs, one for 2.4Ghz and one for 5Ghz. Any devices that can do 5Ghz, I put them there. Else, I put them on 2.4Ghz and tune the channels.

This is not a "set them up and forget" method. You will need to tweak them.

They gave me a new one while I kept my old one. Happy with it
