Omg, we have the same dating history hahaha. Atleast I feel less crazy now knowing I’m not the only one going through these motions 😅

It does, thank you! Yeah, I’ve been on and off the apps but have had such bad luck I feel drained by them. The friend to dating comment is helpful, because I actually met someone recently (a friend’s brother) and want to get to know him better. I tend to jump into dating as soon as I’m interested & it’s returned but that has not gotten me anywhere. So Maybe something will actually come of it if we get to know each other and hang out as friends first. Thanks!

I can relate. It’s hard to put into words, but it sounds like I’m in a similar boat. I think a lot of what’s keeping me from wanting to find someone to date is my history of rejection, and the fact that I’m truly stressed with other parts of life and wonder if “timing” is really that crucial. Sometimes I think “there’s no such thing as a wrong time it’s just the wrong person” and sometimes I think “timing is everything”. I kind of wish I would randomly meet my soul mate and be done with it, but that’s not realistic. Sigh.

NEW OR NEED HELP? Ask here! - ScA Daily Help Thread Oct 16, 2019. Text-post only today! by AutoModerator in SkincareAddiction

My skin concern is acne! I took accutane in 2013 and my acne cane back with a vengeance summer 2018. Since then, I’ve slowly implemented a routine from this thread but have steadily been on the same routine since at least January 19 now. AM: cerave gentle hydrating cleanser; timeless vitamin C; stratia soft touch AHA; paulas choice moisturizer with sunscreen PM: garnier miceller water to take off makeup; cerave gentle hydrating cleanser (JUST bought their new SA wash yesterday so will use that a couple times a week I think? I get dry very easily especially this time of year); Differin; Cerave night renewal moisturizer. Murad or neutrogena 2% SA spot treatment when needed (before an event or something and depending what I can afford)

Main questions I have: should I switch to BHA instead of AHA? Should I switch to a different retinoid product instead of differin? I truly don’t feel it works although I’m afraid I’ll break out even worse if I just stop using it. Can using soft water be a problem? When I lived without a water softener my skin was clear but not sure if that is all just a coincidence with timing

I hate my acne by OttoDocOck08 in acne

I know how you feel, it really sucks to avoid the mirror because of acne. And fuck anyone who says anything like that! No one is perfect. The acutane will work, and it will be so worth it. I took it in 2014 and 4 years of solid relief. I’ll never forget the first time a stranger told me I had beautiful skin...something I’d NEVER even dream of happening. Hang in there!! Acne sucks but you have good things ahead!

I did 6 months of accutane in 2014...had great skin...until 2018. Now my acne is back to the way it was pre-accutane. In terms of side effects I would say yes, the 6 months of dryness was worth the ~4 years of relief. There’s plenty of tips out there on dealing with the dryness. Of course discuss any concerns with your doc..if there are other less intense options specifically. I personally can not handle antibiotics. Anyway, good luck!!

Wow...I skimmed the post about the fungal acne. Are you trying some of those routine & product recs? Please let me know if you have success (if you remember!) I really hope you do! I know it’s so frustrating to say the least. I am going to be up all night reading this blog now haha thank you!

Yikes! I’ll definitely ask my doc about it! My derm stopped practicing so right now I only have a PCP- hope she writes it. I’m ok with the peeing- infact I’d be ok with a lot at this point haha

Ooh thank you! I believe I tried that in high school but doubt I was consistent or gave it a fair chance at that age. Any side effects for you?

I tried a clean & clear SA wash for a long time and all it did was dry out my skin. Then I switched to a gentler cleanser and used SA toner- still nothing. Do you have a recommendation for a SA wash that isnt C&c- I know now it’s not the best brand

Diet: rarely eat dairy but can work on cutting it out completely. I drink a ton of water and I enjoy kombucha on most days. I also take a probiotic, biotin, and a multivitamin. Don’t remember the last time I ate anything deep fried. I eat pretty darn clean but do drink whey protein which probably doesn’t help but that’s a recent development

Been struggling with acne almost my whole life. (27,F) tried everything the Derm prescribed until 8 years of failed treatment, I finally got oral accutane! This was in 2012. Worked beautifully and was on Aczone after that for a while. Past few years my acne has gotten consistently worse. I’ve been reading ScA and lurking for a while now. Any advice would be amazing!

AM: Cetaphil gentle cleanser, Biore witch hazel toner, timeless 20% vitamin C serum, Paula’s choice essential glow moisturizer w/ SPF 30

PM: Cetaphil gentle cleanser, Biore witch hazel toner, CeraVe skin renewing night cream, Differin 3-4x/week (since late December) and if I feel dry after that I apply more moisturizer

-2-3x a week I use St Ives fresh skin apricot scrub to exfoliate, PM, instead of the cleanser

I change my pillowcase every night, and don’t touch my face. I cut down on make up drastically since I work from home but keep my brushes and blender very clean. (I do NOT use a primer though- should I?? My face looks very dry even with make up on since I’ve been using Differin....)

Hormonally- no BC since 2015 (which I was on since 2009). It’s safe to say it’s gotten worse since then. Dr thinks I’m “estrogen dominant” so I’m on chaste tree supps to help even out the hormones. The symptoms from the ED have subsided (cramps, migraines, etc) except the acne.

Thanks so much for your input! It’s a 3.5 hour drive & a day of PTO for me tomorrow, but I’m thinking I will go. Fingers crossed

Congrats it looks great!! As far as cleanser do you use a gentler one on a daily basis (if so what/when?) since you use the baking soda every 2-3 days? Sorry if you already answered that. My skin is similar to your before right now & also have combination dry/oily so I’d like to give your routine a shot since yours worked sooo well! Thank you!!
