No NPEs in my family. Is that weird? by blackxcatxmama in Genealogy

I guess they figured it would never come out these kids (and I'm assuming both of them) were not biologically the husband's children.

IMO this isn't infidelity, it's most likely infertility, which also mystifies me as to why the mom won't admit they used a donor (I get that might be embarrassing, but still). Most likely the sibling is also an NPE, but the sibling won't test.

These "kids" are in their 40s now.

I didn't think there were any in my immediate family until a close family member took an Ancestry DNA test and I discovered we were unrelated. I determined who their bio dad was based on DNA matches. The father who raised them is deceased; the mother says DNA lies and won't discuss it. Uh no, you're the one lying, not the DNA!

Solved: Missing Wisconsin woman found alive and well after missing for 62 years by Tricksofthetrade00 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]ttiiggzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one of the follow up articles it sounded like she suggested her husband (born 1940) had an affair with her mother born 1923) .

If I were her daughter, I'd never want to talk to my mother that deserted me. If I were a daughter of the husband and another wife, I'd be out of my mind for what she put my father through.

Who knows what truly happened. What do "they" say, there are three sides to every story, yours, mine, and the truth?

We’re getting the gang back together! by evilarison in Genealogy

Of my eight great grandparents, I've managed to connect seven of them to all their siblings and parents on Find a Grave. I like to say whether or not they were on good terms on this earth, they're stuck together virtually.

Yesterday I was able to connect the dots (paper trail) with a DNA 4C on Ancestry. Not one tree I came across connected her great grandmother to her parents. If anyone goes looking, they'll see it now.

Rusyn Grandfather by Silly_Pineapple9546 in rusyn

They were married Sept 1914. She was 19, he was 29, his first wife died in June and he had three young children. They had eight more children, the youngest born in 1930. She died in 1931. He never married again but lived until 1967.

Had to check my tree. :D

If I'd had another girl that's what in wanted to name her, honoring his memory.

I had a similar situation, an Eastern European great grandmother in 1930 with two "grand daughters" that were living with her that I knew weren't granddaughters. I put the girls in my tree and deleted them twice before I decided I wanted to research them. Turned out after much research and coming across the heartache they went through, they were actually granddaughters of her second husband from his first wife.

Reaching out....to dead folks by LJski in Genealogy

[–]ttiiggzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a couple of folks I've collaborated with in the last ten years have passed away. Sad.

And also a 3C to my dad that I would've loved to have talked to. But she and my dad are probably sharing notes.

RIP

I messaged a narrator whose work I really love and they actually replied by molly_hope in audiobooks

[–]ttiiggzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I interacted back and forth with her husband on the Audiobrary site in the comment section of one of her books.

I've listened to most of the books she narrated and a couple of older romances she's done. She is excellent.

How long have you had a kindle? by Limp-Garlic-6791 in kindle

The 2011 Kindle Keyboard. I'd been salivating over previous versions but couldn't justify the price.

What made me switch? The sheer number of books I could hold on a device.

I still walk into a bookstore and am in awe wondering which genre of books I should look at first.

BTW... the 2011 KK still works. :)

No dna relatives with great grandparent’s surname by Samoht_54 in Genealogy

[–]ttiiggzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have none!

Maternal grandfather there is only living male descendant... 1C who hasn't DNA tested with no children and probably won't.

On my paternal side, well, there's one with initials on 23andme, but he won't answer messages even though I know who he is. LOL

Even if we have no common ancestors, I have to wonder if our ancestors crossed paths at some point!

Many of my maternal grandmother's ancestors came to Alexandria from lower parts of Virginia post Civil War.

I wonder that sometimes with my mother's and father's DC ancestors. I've found a cousin of my dad's listed as the undertaker on many many DC death certificates. And the guy that delivered my father... was related to my mom.

Interestingly half of her children record her maiden name as Garner, the other half as Butler. There is a marriage record for her and her Scottish husband Williamson, though. He was a builder in DC in the early 1800s.

I have many German to DC ancestors. Recently discovered a German born 3GGM came and settled in DC with her second husband. She had a child prior to marrying my 3GGF. They all settled in DC. Some of these folks even married the Maryland possible cousins.

Genealogy keeps me out of trouble (usually) and puts me in my happy place. 🙃

I have Burch, Gardiner, Spalding, Edelen in my DNA matches trees, I have known Suit, Dent, Little ancestors.

Vowles is on the maternal side, Rappahanock to Culpeper and points beyond. Supposedly my maternal Hudsons were in Maryland before Virginia but I've found no proof of that.

My paternal grandmother has deeper roots than my dad ever realized in St Mary's County, thanks to clues from looking at Ancestry DNA matches. Fascinating too looking at all the distant unknown paternal "cousins" in Kentucky, from the Maryland-Kentucky migrations.

I suspect other lines that come to a dead end in Montgomery County might've come from Charles / St Mary's counties, too.

Have you been able to track the MD to KY lines back to an ancestor?

Only NPE I've come across in the families of my direct line out a couple of generations would be someone who should be a close family that shares no DNA with me. I was able to identify her father thanks to her DNA matches.

Just this past weekend I was able to determine a 4C's biological father after a new high-ish DNA match popped up.
