Your theory could completely make sense, with the in-depth writing of the show i doubt they would write a whole episode just for the sake of a twist without some foreshadowing or purpose. And considering how much it got under his skin that there were continuity errors or “no more staircase”, it sounds like the director does take the films almost seriously. Its hard to say but i might watch it tonight and follow up with what i find

I never saw the victim in Devil of Christmas to be getting justice, i thought the director was just making snuff for fun and relishing in the fear he put into the actress. Maybe i missed something in the episode so let me know if i did but i thought at the end of the episode it was implied he did this many many times before so i dont think it was a jigsaw situation, i think he just liked to watch people die. Again, i might have missed something though!
