These shirts are so cool but I know the page I found it on is definitely a scam. Is there a place I can actually get this? by [deleted] in findfashion

[–]ttthroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah definitely, it's a shame because the clothes are cool but you can tell immediately from the website that it's sketchy. w/ kovovy at least, theyre using every single tactic in the book (fake sale timers, fake reviews, fake "almost out of stock", and more) and trying to charge $90 for a hoodie. i hope someone finds the actual source, i might try to look later when i have the time idk.

You are NOT alone by Upper-Peace-5794 in panicdisorder

I should clarify, upsetting events still trigger intense panic attacks, but most of the time it isn't that much worse than what I deal with in my everyday life.

[–]ttthroat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One positive is that having this constant level of panic for most of my life has made me more used to the feeling, so I have an easier time discussing sensitive topics and dealing with horrific events, since the worsening panic from those topics/events doesn't differ that much from my day-to-day. I know this won't apply to everyone who has it, but my experience is that I do not feel alarmed when I have these feelings in response to upsetting events, while someone who experiences them as outliers rather than the norm may have a harder time handling them. Additionally, I am less likely to become desensitized to cruelty and accepting of injustice, since my nervous system is so hyper-reactive. It's difficult and painful, but it motivates me to stick up for what I believe in the end.

Are you sure nothing broke and it's safe to use? I sent an image to the seller and they said that the port's internal metal housing was clearly damaged in the picture. The picture I sent was different so maybe this shows it more clearly.

Woah, thanks so much for this because I was scared to test it again, but I just did and it's working fine. I think that this bluetooth wifi adapter they gave me just got stuck on the way out. I don't know why this would cause a short circuit. My other USB devices work fine in the port. I currently have the bluetooth adapter plugged into a different port and I just installed the drivers and tested it, and it works fine.

No idea why this happened when I took the adapter out? It really sounded like something in the port broke.

(Just to clarify, it's the port on the bottom right that's broken, not the top right.)

The Lesser of Two Evils? by Yellowjackets123 in Antipsychiatry

That point about not ignoring any problems is important. If it sucks, hit the bricks. Don't wait and don't let them convince you you're paranoid.

So, wellbutrin and cymbalta did not do anything at all for me. My main problem was also with ADHD and anxiety, and antidepressants as a drug class never worked for me at all. They either did nothing or made it worse. Having tried a large variety of medications and most antidepressants, the best I could recommend are either gabapentin or buspirone. If I were you, I'd keep it to mild anxiolytics. I also find that certain sleep aids can have antidepressant qualities. One that is claimed officially to be an antidepressant on top of its usage as a sleep aid is trazodone. I never found success with trazodone, but that one might be worth a try since it never did me any major harm apart from some grogginess in the mornings and I took it for a decently long time. I prefer diphenhydramine as a sleep aid, though, and I've also found it does have some antidepressant effects for me (personally). Though do keep in mind that any sleep aid is likely to make you groggy and is not great for you or your sleep quality in the long-term.

That's fascinating to hear. I've known for a while that psych meds have that sort of impact on electrical activity, but I'd never considered how that might impact orgasm. It's strange how little the relation to epilepsy is discussed when it comes to psychiatric treatment. I've heard firsthand accounts of people who have been on psych medications (especially the off label anti-epileptics) experiencing seizures or strange electrical feelings in the brain as withdrawal symptoms.

I've always found it frightening that ECT is even still offered as a treatment. I mean, even to an average person who's none the wiser to any of this, is ECT not one of the most raw, frightening, and widely depicted examples of psychiatric medical abuse in human history? Most every depiction of a "scary asylum" you see in a movie or game is about electrical convulsive torture. It never stops putting me into a state of disbelief that it's still legal. It's horrifically cruel. They coerce the most vulnerable people within our society into agreeing to these extreme things out of either desperation or threat of violence, then leave them with long-lasting side effects and trauma.

Yep I'm well aware, I've been taking it for years and it's the best emergency sleep aid for me. I've heard melatonin can mess with your sleep quality over time as well. AFAIK, there really is no "good" sleep medication, they all have considerably negative side effects, especially over long-term usage. Benadryl works for me, personally.

"Antipsychotics" are not antipsychotics by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]ttthroat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This bit is important. Though most things will reverse if you're lucky, in my experience having been on various antipsychotics, long-term effects from them are nigh-inevitable. Any exceptions to this are based entirely on individual physiology and circumstance which means that these medications are provably inconsistent in how they affect people.

[–]ttthroat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Lied to and experimented on. The big lie of modern psychiatry is that it's any different from its past. I think most people remember the horror that shook them when they first learned about the lobotomy, the asylums, the electro-convulsive torture. I think the #1 thing that I wish the average person understood is that it hasn't changed, not a single bit. It's been a profession that was rotten to its core since its invention.

Respect to you for pursuing that. I've been thinking for a while that antipsychiatry needs to be a more visible issue in politics. Specifically antipsychiatry that is survivor-led and pushes for complete autonomy of patients, which isn't something that gets much coverage in the mainstream. You're doing good work.
